When Hasbro nails an action figure, they really nail it and it essentially becomes a symbol of what all action figures should aspire. The second red phase of the Legacy Collection brought us some of the best action figures Hasbro will ever produce in their lifetime and one of the standout figures was Princess Leia (BD17). It set a new precedent on what Hasbro was physically able to incorporate into action figures. Not only did Princess Leia (BD17) comes with a ton of accessories, but for the first time Hasbro manufactured a prepositioned lower portion of her (waist and below) so that aesthetically she would look perfectly natural in a seated position. It had little to no problems and it’s really one of the most impressive “accessories” Hasbro has ever put with an action figure. Hasbro felt that Princess Leia deserved rerelease and they brought her forward into The Vintage Collection as Princess Leia (Slave Outfit) (VC64). It’s definitely a figure that all fan boys want to see in The Vintage Collection, but Hasbro egregiously left out the interchangeable seated attachment. It would have fit into the packaging if some things were rearranged, so it’s very disappointing.
Many collectors missed out on the 2009 LC Princess Leia (BD17) figure during its original run and they’re likely going to be upset that they can’t get a complete version of her in The Vintage Collection. If the lack of this part doesn’t bother you, you’ll no doubt have a really stellar action figure to join the rest of the figures from this line. There aren’t any differences on the figure this time around and it’s wonderful that Hasbro treated this as a straight repack because Princess Leia was perfect the first time around. This time around, collectors get the force pike, chalice and removable collar and chain. The figure splits at the waist (the articulation above the waist is a ball-jointed torso – specifically designed to use with the seated positioned legs) and the belt and soft-goods skirt is also removable. Princess Leia gives a little bit of an impression that she is too short, but she isn’t. She does however give the illusion of being tinier than she should be for some odd reason. But you’ll be too bust enjoying just how awesome of an action figure she is than to worry about her height.
Although Hasbro picked some wonderful action figures to include in the Revenge Of The Jedi gimmick, there are many other choices that they seem to be neglecting. Many disagree with our opinion that 2008's TLC Yarna d’al’ Gargan (BD 6) figure needs to be rereleased in The Vintage Collection, but until it happens, we won’t feel otherwise. But we think she would have been an ideal candidate in the Revenge Of The Jedi promotion. And there are many others we’d like to see just released in The Vintage Collection in general. But key characters in key outfits like Princess Leia (Slave Outfit) are prime choices for this line indeed. It will be interesting to see how far Hasbro will be taking The Vintage Collection. We’d personally love to see the line go beyond 200 figures. It seems a bit unlikely at this point. Hasbro has commented that line looks can only run so long to prevent staleness by consumers. But ironically, we think it’s the longevity of The Vintage Collection thus far that is actually creating more interest in the basic figure line more now than ever. While we wait to see what transpires, be sure to enjoy figures like this. They look amazing in TVC packaging!
