"I am a Jedi, like my father before me." RETURN OF THE JEDI was a powerful conclusion to this epic saga of good versus evil. The whole world knows this film by its current title, which evokes the glorious return of the hero. But during filming, the movie was slated to be called REVENGE OF THE JEDI. Merchandise was developed based on this title, including Kenner action figure packaging. Then, late in production, there was a dramatic change. Shortly before the film was released, George Lucas decided the title should be RETURN OF THE JEDI. The final title carries a more appropriate emotional tone because, of course, a Jedi would not seek revenge.

To celebrate this monumental film and unique history of its title, we have created special packages of favorite characters from the movie, featuring the REVENGE OF THE JEDI title. May the Force be with you!

The Saga Collection brought collectors a tremendous amount of excellent action figures to the line, and one subset of figures was the Vintage The Saga Collection line. Han Solo (In Trench Coat) was one of the characters chosen to receive this premium treatment. Released in the Kenner-inspired “Vintage” The Saga Collection (VTSC) packaging, the figure held up remarkably well for years, even though by 2021’s standards, the figure is almost obsolete at this point. It had a good run, but it’s time to break the molds. This particular action figure received minor tweaks throughout its many releases. It appears that now, in 2021, that Hasbro got everything aesthetically right, but the action figure is still too spindly, and new tooling is desperately needed. More commonly known as Han Solo (In Trench Coat), Hasbro renamed the figure to Han Solo (Endor), much to the chagrin of Kenner purists. The updated figure looks pretty good, especially with Photo Real paint operations, and it has been a mainstay in most peoples’ collections for years because of all the re-releases. In a slightly surprising move, Hasbro decided to put another “newer” interpretation of this figure into The Vintage Collection, and to be quite honest, the figure looks about as good as it ever will. We're not happy about this figure seeing another re-release in 2021, but Hasbro no longer tweaks or repacks 2006’s VTSC Han Solo (In Trench Coat) because they have a newer version they keep rehashing. They consistently use the Han Solo figure from 2009’s TLC Shield Generator Assault Battle Packs set and then cut the trench coat from new fabric and color and fitted it with this version of Han Solo figure. The trench coat has a gray-colored camouflage pattern.

The final results are admittedly impressive, but we have so many re-releases of this particular version now that things are now confusing. We'll make it simple. The 2021 version is the best. The many different vintage-styled interpretations of Han Solo (on Endor) throughout the years are overbearing, but you might be happy with this one. They all look different from each other now. Some of you may be interested to know that this Han Solo (In Trench Coat) figure made an appearance thrice before being released as a single basic carded figure. It was first available as part of the very controversial 2011 TVC Revenge Of The Jedi [Death Star II] SDCC exclusive set. And right after, Hasbro included the figure in 2011’s SW [SOTDS] Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi Blu-ray Release Commemorative Figure & Mini-Poster Collection multipack. Years later, they released it as 2015's TBS [P3] Han Solo as a Walmart exclusive. The material used for the trench coat this time around has a brush looked instead of a streamlined look, and the camouflage pattern is entirely different. Due to the differences in how the factory machines applied the camouflage pattern, the 2006 trench coat and the 2011 and 2015 versions look worlds apart. The 2021 version is the most different yet. Han Solo (Endor [In Trench Coat]) looks alright, and maybe it was indeed time to refresh the figure a bit more. The head sculpt is not overtly a portrait that rings true with collectors, but most have found it an acceptable likeness to our favorite Rebel hero. In addition to the trench coat, Han Solo also comes with a blaster pistol fitted into the working holster.

What more would you want? Don’t ask. We get it. A new figure at this stage of the game would be incredible. The new trench coat looks good here, however. The pattern looks excellent here, unlike anything we’ve seen prior. The card art is relatively identical for the re-release, aside from a fresh new reverse of the card. It’s always nice to have another release from Return Of The Jedi get another chance at retail. Han Solo (In Trench Coat) is a critical The Vintage Collection Star Wars action figure. It dates back to 1984’s ROTJ Han Solo (In Trench Coat) figure and has remained a favorite action figure with Star Wars fans for years. And probably very few of us believed that Hasbro would ever revisit this figure. It’s not entirely accurate to refer to this figure as a revisit. Hasbro rethought the figure’s approach, but it is essentially the same as those previously released, plus or minus a few deco changes. But the important thing to note is that it’s a winning combination. Hasbro needs to keep pumping out the original 92+ vintage Kenner figures into The Vintage Collection. One of the essential things for collectors is to get modern replacements for all of the figures they grew up with and played with during their childhood years. Han Solo (In Trench Coat) is a step in the right direction. There are many other characters Hasbro has yet to attempt or add into The Vintage Collection that need their day in the sun. The Vintage Collection will not run forever, so Hasbro needs to act now and get as many as they can knock out. While we patiently wait, we will enjoy figures like Han Solo (Endor [In Trench Coat]), but it won’t be easy. We’ve seen this figure too many times.
