Jabba the Hutt's kidnapped son is being held in a B'omarr monastery built on top of a sheer cliff. Anakin begins the difficult ascent up the cliff with battle droids firing down on him, and droid-piloted STAPs racing into combat, laser cannons blasting. Casualties are mounting, so Anakin makes a daring move. He leaps into the air to take command of a STAP and dispatches battle droids with his lightsaber, clearing a path to the summit.

The Clone Wars film was packed with action throughout and Hasbro was probably at a loss at deciding which scenes would make for the most engaging multipacks. And because the film had so many memorable moments, Hasbro probably couldn’t go wrong with choosing any of them. Keep in mind, in order for Hasbro to bring a variety of products to our collections they had to utilize “older” items from “long ago” that could be reinvented through the eyes of The Clone Wars. And that’s exactly what they did for the B’omarr Monastery Assault Battle Packs set. Being completely upfront, we don’t think it’s a very exciting set of figures. You may be questioning why we’re getting another Anakin Skywalker and Battle Droid figure, but they’re both unique and much needed in your collection. Some find it annoying when Hasbro replaces a figure for a miniature vehicle, but in this set it works and collectors may have hand in the “value for your money” department here.

Anakin Skywalker is a retool of 2008’s TCW Anakin Skywalker (No. 1) figure. This time however, Hasbro has given him a soft-goods skirt and articulated legs for added mobility. The extra enhancements work well and although we think the coloring of the figure is off in a couple of spots, it’s definitely an upgrade from the basic figure. Anakin also comes outfitted with his lightsaber which is a much needed accessory to make this Battle Packs scene feel right at home from the movie. Battle Droid is both a retool and a repaint from 2008’s TCW Battle Droid (No. 7) figure as well. Interestingly, the forearms on the droid have been retooled and placed straight out so it can grasp the handlebars of the STAP with relative ease. It also has a stunning battle-damaged paint job. And the icing on the cake is the included “electrical blast” effect with alerts the collector that this Separatist is going down.

The STAP vehicles look great. There are reworks of the “now ancient” ones we received as part of the Episode I line in 1999. It’s amazing that a great new and fresh paint job seems to make them brand new all over again despite and almost decade old sculpt. The blue color of the STAPs along with their visually appealing pale red parallel lines on the sides of the body are finished off with the Separatist insignia in white making for one visually stunning vehicle. The STAPs come with clear stand so you can display Anakin Skywalker and the Battle Droid on them without them falling over onto the ground. You definitely get a lot of plastic to play with in this set and we think you get good value for your dollar here, despite this set only coming with two action figures. The B’omarr Monastery Assault Battle Packs set is a decent toy for the kids and even collectors’ collections. Hasbro has certainly done better, but there is something to like here for all.
