Scorch (Republic Commando) - TSC - Basic (SAGA 021)

One of the biggest retail shockers in The Saga Collection was Scorch (Republic Commando). Simply put, he sold like mad and Hasbro couldn’t meet demand until The Saga Collection line was phasing out in early 2007 and they were able to include Scorch (Republic Commando) in various remix cases. Surprisingly not as articulated as most would have assumed, Scorch came to us with a limited 10 points of movement. The demand for super-articulation was only in its infancy in 2006, so many of us looked the other way at his lack of ball-jointed knees and ankles. Despite the missing articulation, Scorch (Republic Commando) really came out well. It’s one of Hasbro’s best sculpts (we’re talking aesthetics here and not articulation) and it seems that more just than a few fans felt the same way. Scorch (Republic Commando) was a great jumping off point for Hasbro to begin making the Delta Squad (the full set of all four members of Delta Squad and a few other figures came to us by December that same year), and they really did design a pose that fits him well. He can hold his gun very authentically, and his armored proportions just look fantastic. But how did the rest of the figure turn out?

Scorch (Republic Commando) has little to no negatives aside from the limited articulation. Hasbro chose colors faithful to the video game character and as a result provided collectors with something to be really excited to own. But it took Scorch (Republic Commando) a while to become prevalent in collectors homes. He was a chase figure of sorts and everyone from Hot Wheels collectors to GI Joe collectors was scooping him up for resale on the aftermarket. Scorch (Republic Commando) has a sky blue visor. It’s stunningly painted and contrast beautifully with the rest of the colors on his armor. The dark gray and yellow colors accent his white armor beautifully and the accents used to paint some of the finer details couldn’t have been done better. Scorch (Republic Commando) has plenty of scratches and dirt markings that look fantastic. And with the realistic brown color used by Hasbro, these battle-damage markings hammer it home that this guy is fighting for his life on Geonosis. Hasbro certainly did a fine job on the execution of this action figure. It may not have the ideal articulation everyone is wanting, but this figure sure looks good.

Scorch (Republic Commando) comes with some cool accessories too. He has a removable canister rack that plugs nicely into his right leg and a backpack. These pieces offer a little more versatility in the way you display him in your collection. His choice of gun is the DC-17M stock mount blaster complete with an anti-armor attachment (this is not a separate piece however). This gun can be posed very realistically in his hands. Scorch (Republic Commando) has an official clone designation of RC-1262. We’re not sure if there is some reference to his number, but we’re sure someone at Lucasfilm Ltd. has some personal investment in it. Scorch (Republic Commando) is a wonderful action figure. He’s one of the all-new figures in The Saga Collection. He may not be as super-articulated as you had hoped, but we still think the action figure should exceed your expectations. It’s quite astounding how broad the scope of the clones has become. Lucas himself directed the very notion that the members of Delta Squad have their own unique color flashes. He got his wish they are some of coolest Republic Commando designs we’ve seen. Scorch (Republic Commando) is easily a must-have for our collections. Judging by his performance at retail, he likely was a must-have for yours as well.
