Escape from Order 66: When order 66 was enacted, Clone Captain Rex turned on his friend and former Jedi Ahsoka Tano – but with the help of a few brave droids, Ahsoka removed Clone Captain Rex's inhibitor chip just in time.
Hasbro has released a lot of garbage lately in The Vintage Collection, and by that, we mean excellent action figures of pure garbage characters. However, it’s refreshing to see some “old school” characters added to the line here and there. Hasbro has been having fun with their multipacks format, specifically, the Special 4 Action Figures sets. In their defense, Hasbro grouped assortments of characters by choosing themes from the “old school” Star Wars Original Trilogy and the dreaded Disney Star Wars universe. The fantastic Special 4 Action Figures [Ahsoka Tano (Siege of Mandalore)/R7-A7/CH-33P (Cheep)/RG-G1 (G-G)] features our most beloved Padawan turned rogue warrior Ahsoka Tano (a re-release) along with three unique astromech droids which we imagine is much to the chagrin of miserable collectors, but an absolute joy for us. What’s interesting here is that Ahsoka Tano is a slight repaint of 2021’s TVC Ahsoka Tano (Mandalore) (VC202) but comes with a different name and character photo. Is Hasbro finally listening to collectors by no longer giving straight repacks a new number? Thank the Maker! So, this re-release of Ahsoka Tano is like getting R5-D4 on both a Star Wars card and The Empire Strikes Back card, complete with R5-D4 and Arfive-Defour (R5-D4) spellings. This approach is a beautiful thing!
The Ahsoka Tano (Siege of Mandalore) action figure is nice to see again, although most of us can still easily secure this figure online. Hasbro is not too adept at choosing the right action figure to re-release again, so this is par for the course. Ahsoka Tano looks fantastic on the new card with a livened-up character photo. And it fits this set well, as it’s a literal screencap from the "Scattered" episode from The Clone Wars. It’s not too often we get multipacks with four action figures from the same film frame. But we do here. For us, the star of the set is R7-A7. You might be surprised as we previously received this character THREE TIMES already in the 3.75-inch scaled action figure line. The first version was from the animated The Clone Wars line as 2011’s TCW [SOTDS] R7-A7 (CW43) figure. Then, we received an “unnamed” version of the character in the Disney Parks 2015 Collection of Droid Factory figures released. And finally, Hasbro gave us a simplified “5POA” version in the Celebrate The Saga Jedi Order set from 2020. But, this is the first time we have received a collector-focused version of the characters, utilizing the updated Build A Droid sculpt and not missing its foot wirings.
Don’t judge CH-33P (Cheep) by its ridiculous name. It’s a distant cousin of Chopper (C1-10P) and has the charm and cuteness to accompany it. Hasbro took most of 2023’s TVC Chopper (C1-10P) (VC304) figure, gave it a new dome and right leg, and then repainted it. It doesn’t have much articulation, but it looks fantastic next to the other figures in The Vintage Collection, especially other astromech droids. Then, the RG-G1 looks like a standard Imperial R4-series astromech droid utilized by the Galactic Empire. However, Hasbro tooled an all-new dome, making it specific to the character’s appearance in The Clone Wars. It complements this four-pack nicely, and we hope Hasbro continues to produce more astromech droids based on these updated sculpts. They do look excellent. The paint operations on all of the included action figures are gorgeous. We’re confident you’ll be happy with what Hasbro accomplished here. What you might not be able to swallow here is the $69.99 MSRP. That breaks down to $17.50 a figure, most of which are smaller astromech droids. In our opinion, this set shouldn’t be more than $50.00. Still, there is a lot offered to us here.
