The first Ewok character produced for The Black Series 6-inch line was Paploo. And now that the 40th Anniversary of Return Of The Jedi has arrived, there is a reason to regain this previously exclusive action figure to the general public. Collectors can once again welcome Paploo back into the Star Wars Hasbro line through the Return Of The Jedi 40 collection released to the general marketplace. The figure has some slightly revised paint operations but looks similar to the original release. It isn't easy to process that three years passed before Hasbro got this rare Ewok action figure out again. They created a lot of unnecessary demand by making the community wait this long but later is better than never. We wish Paploo came with a few additional accessories, like a knife, but it's molded permanently to the belt.
As part of the Return Of The Jedi 40 sub-line, Hasbro placed Paploo on a mock Kenner card with an incorrect character photo. The image of the Ewok on the card is Romba, and this is a mistake Kenner made back in 1984. But what's so confusing about this is that Hasbro had already set the precedent to fix the many errors Kenner made back in the day when they refreshed or re-released action figures in The Vintage Collection. They corrected 2010's TVC 4-LOM (VC10) figure, and they changed the artwork of 2011's TVC Ponda Baba (Walrus Man) (VC70) figure. So why can't they correct a glaring error like the wrong character photo? What makes this especially painful is that the 1984 Kenner Trilogo version of Paploo has the correct character photo, so why couldn't Hasbro use that one? Their inconsistency with updating some things and not others is confusing. We cannot follow their logic here.
We shouldn't be surprised. Hasbro also followed suit with 2021's TVC Paploo (VC190) figure. They also used the Romba character photo. We need to understand why they didn't correct Kenner's errors in this regard. That said, the Paploo action figure is a great deal of fun. They captured Paploo's toothy smile nicely, and the facial expression is near perfect to what we see in the film. The removable cowl is the correct beige color and has all red and brown feathers in the right spots. Also, the two-pronged spear is gorgeous and beautifully captures the magic from the Battle of Endor. Paploo comes with a nice amount of articulation, but the arms and legs don't move as you might wish due to the bulkiness of the extremities. That said, this small-statured figure can achieve some action-oriented movement. Overall, it's lovely to see Paploo added to the 6-inch assortment in some capacity again.
Status: Paploo is a slight repaint of the figure from 2020's TBS [P4] Heroes Of Endor exclusive multipack.
