Even if you loathe Disney Star Wars, you cannot discount the Obi-Wan Kenobi (Showdown)/Darth Vader (Duel's End) multipack in The Vintage Collection. The set is, of course, overpriced, but what else is new with Hasbro? However, we get two premium versions of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader, which will be tremendous highlights in your 3.75-inch collection. As Hasbro did in The Black Series 6-inch line to produce Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jabiim), they did the same action for its TVC counterpart. They took the legs of 2022's TVC Obi-Wan Kenobi (Wandering Jedi) (VC245) figure and then designed an all-new upper body with a significantly improved head sculpt and repainted it to make Obi-Wan Kenobi (Showdown). Admittedly, this version of Obi-Wan Kenbi is excellent. The portrait is stunning, and the costume is reminiscent of what the character wore in the Prequel Trilogy. The legs are funky but pose well, and you can achieve incredible poses with the figure's articulation system. This updated action figure is a noteworthy addition to The Vintage Collection. Hasbro added a blaster pistol, hilt, and lightsaber, and all of them interact beautifully with the figure.
But perhaps the highlight of this set is the Darth Vader (Duel's End) figure. Based on the stunning 2022 TVC Darth Vader (The Dark Times) (VC241) figure, Hasbro tooled an all-new head sculpt with a battle-damages two-piece helmet and an all-new Anakin Skywalker portrait. We hope they use the latter and go to town making various versions of Anakin Skywalker in the 3.75-inch super-articulated lineup. There are so many "battle-damaged" versions of Anakin Skywalker they need to produce or update. The likeness is eerily beautiful, so Hasbro must reuse it. They also updated the chest box by including some battle damage there, and they tattered the cape to show the evidence of battling against a wise Jedi Master. As you know, this buck of Darth Vader is spectacular and will amaze you. It can achieve any pose you wish, and the figure looks stunning in any configuration. We appreciate the new parts of this figure, but the human portrait underneath the battle-damaged helmet doesn't align perfectly with the eye lenses in the helmet. You can futz with it for a while and get it at a better angle, but we don't think they designed this feature well enough, so you'll get close, but not perfect.
However, we removed the collar and the cape, which was the closest we got to a perfectly aligned helmet with the eyes. Darth Vader has a two-piece removable helmet, a torn cape, a hilt, and a lightsaber. You have plenty of accessories to play with here. The packaging is attractive. Hasbro combined the artwork of the Deluxe format with the Special Action figure sets. But because each figure comes on a card with an entertainment logo, this falls under the multipacks category. However, we must understand why two carded figures packaged together cost $39.99, or $20 each. If Hasbro released these two figures in a case assortment, they would be cheaper. Hasbro must think we're all stupid or something. We must state that seeing these two characters together made us have flashbacks of the Revenge Of The Sith "lava reflection" figures from almost twenty years ago. The nostalgia was so strong that we sought the pearly paint operations that recreated that effect. But that said, we would love to see Hasbro update the iconic battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader and Mustafar. The Darth Vader figure in this set gives us an exquisite likeness of Anakin Skywalker, so they could get a lot of mileage out of it if they're smart.
