Boy, the HK-87 Assassin Droids are taking over Disney Star Wars. They appeared in The Mandalorian, now part of Star Wars: Ahsoka. We received a similar character like this years ago in The Legacy Collection line. Almost a decade and a half later, two HK-series droids enter the Hasbro Star Wars line in the form of HK-87 and HK-87 Assassin Droid; one from The Mandalorian and the other from Ahsoka. The Black Series 6-inch action figure interpretation of this character turned out well, but its parts aren’t that strong, meaning posing this figure is a bit of a challenge. The joints are weak. Although quite different in apparel and some structural design changes (like the head), this new character version will undoubtedly go over very well with the modern Star Wars collecting community because we rarely get characters that are droids and aliens anymore. Seeing a “literal “background character get the limelight in the action figure line is appreciated. HK-87 Assassin Droid is a repaint of the HK-87 figure based on The Mandalorian with a few other changes. It has a new soft-goods cape, and the belt and tunic aren’t on this version. Loaded up with 30 points of articulation, Hasbro also worked in “butterfly” joints to allow for as full a range of motion as possible. HK-87 has some center of gravity issues, and the ankle joints needed to be tighter, but overall, we believe you can assess this figure as a success in the lineup. HK-87 Assassin Droid is a colorful figure. Its body is red and comes with black and silver accents. HK-87 Assassin Droid comes with a modified droid blaster. Unfortunately, they didn’t include the stuff we see from the Ahsoka series, and we think that’s a notable misstep here. It will be interesting to see how popular the action figures will or won’t become over time. The series is getting mixed reviews right now, and longtime Star Wars fans aren’t too impressed. We’re also curious to see what characters Hasbro will add to The Vintage Collection from this series.
