Collectors will either love or hate the comic-inspired Boba Fett action figures. There doesn’t seem to be any middle ground here. But if you do appreciate stunning paint jobs. These unique action figures provide some of the most artistic interpretations of this classic bounty hunter to help augment your collection. The Boba Fett (Vintage Comic Art) figure focuses on the character’s first appearance in the Marvel run. In contrast, the Boba Fett (Comic Art Edition) gets its inspiration from Dark Horse’s Boba Fett: Death, Lies, & Treachery comic. Comparing it to the Marvel version, you can see how much more intricately detailed the color palette is. And they did a remarkable job transforming two-dimensional art into a three-dimensional action figure. Again, this one isn’t for you if you don’t appreciate colorful action figures. But we love these things and are happy Hasbro is making the most of its existing tooling to bring us new action figures based on our most-favorite Star Wars characters. What won’t sit well with you is the ludicrous MSRP. Boba Fett (Comic Art Edition) retails for a whopping $20.99.

But let’s look at this figure more closely and see if we can successfully sell one to you. The paint operations are astounding here. Check out the details in the figure’s helmet and various armor plates. This version of Boba Fett focuses on teal and green and then uses purple and yellow (and some teal again) for accents and highlights to show the artwork’s shadow, texture, and depth. This figure is a success on all levels. Like the Boba Fett figure in vintage Kenner colors, this one doesn’t come with a soft-goods cape. But it’s a nice change of pace to have another Boba Fett figure without that cumbersome accessory. It lends a “cleaner” action figure. Hasbro also used the blaster and blaster pistol from The Empire Strikes Back version and cast them in dark purple. The figure interacts with its accessories well. As you know, the 2021 TVC Boba Fett (VC186) figure is gorgeous and comes with a remarkable articulation system. While we’re not crazy for ball-jointed hips, the articulation here allows Boba Fett (Comic Art Edition) to achieve fantastic positioning. You’re going to love it.

This Boba Fett figure comes with an impressive 30 points of articulation. Plus, with “rocker” ankles becoming commonplace in the line, it is easier to appreciate these figures as little works of art. You know about the articulation system, but the joints are hidden well throughout the figure, and more importantly, the insert portions of the ball joints match the surrounding areas of the figure for a seamless aesthetic. You may find that the figure’s jetpack interferes with it through certain poses as it sometimes wants to pull the figure down. You can counteract this natural effect with some careful positioning. So what about this figure’s source of inspiration? Thankfully the story of Boba Fett: Death, Lies, & Treachery is from a Dark Horse story released in 1997, decades before the Dark Times, before Disney Star Wars. We’re so grateful to Hasbro for reaching deep into the original Expanded Universe to produce obscure iterations of our favorite Star Wars characters from printed material, especially those with colorful reference shots like comics. This figure is a lovely release. Hopefully, you’ll add it to your collection.
