What is Hasbro’s obsession with Han Solo (Endor)? It’s a character they’ve released in the 3.75-inch line more times than we care to count, and now they’re doing the same for the 6-inch version of the figure. Part of the 40th Anniversary Return Of The Jedi celebration, the recently released action figure now gets its third chance in the line in a few short years. It’s not a terrible action figure, but it’s safe to assume that we’re all sick of it by now. Besides, other versions of Han Solo are needed from Return Of The Jedi in the 6-inch line. So, they should have focused on something else instead. Based on 2018’s TBS [P3] Han Solo (Endor) (70) figure, Hasbro tooled a new head sculpt and new torso and reused the existing parts. For the 40th Anniversary release, they changed a few paint operations for subtle differences that you may or may not notice. The revised 6-inch action figure, based on the character’s appearance during the Battle of Endor, looks excellent packaged, but it’s also redundant. We’re curious how well it will do at the retail level. The final product is one good-looking action figure, although it might not fall under the category of “perfection.” Still, did Hasbro do enough to make this version of Han Solo deliverable a third time?
Hasbro chose a curious approach for Han Solo’s trench coat. It’s soft-goods material, but it has a “pleather”-like look and feel, and we think it is slightly too synthetic for the figure. Still, if you don’t care about textures too much, there is no denying that Hasbro did an excellent job recreating the camouflage pattern on the trench coat, so it passes that test. The material is relatively thin and pliable, and it changes drape quickly and is necessary when posing the action figure as needed for some action-oriented positions. Overall, the trench coat comes off as too dark and unnatural, yet at the same time, it works. We’re on the fence about it, but at the very least, we don’t feel the trench coat is a setback to this figure. Han Solo (Endor) also comes with a removable molded vest that closely fits the figure’s midsection. It doesn’t look bulky or out of place on the figure. The final accessory with Han Solo (Endor) is the blaster pistol. Hasbro utilized the standard DL-44 blaster pistol here, and the figure’s right hand accommodates it nicely. It’s excellent that you can create multiple versions of Han Solo from this figure. Han Solo loses the trench coat somewhere within the Battle of Endor, but you can also remove the vest and inaccurately recreate the character’s look during the Battle of Carkoon, but a few additional tweaks are needed to make that authentic.
We’re still quite impressed with the new portrait of Han Solo because the character’s hairstyle changes throughout the Original Trilogy, and this version holds up. And Hasbro paid close attention to these differences and translated them well into the Han Solo figures they produced. The Photo Real looks good, and although there is some bizarre pinkish-pale color on the figure’s face, we’re happy with how everything turned out. Originally released as part of a convention-exclusive pack, Han Solo (Endor) enters The Black Series line singly for the second time. Han Solo (Endor) comes packed with other characters from Endor, including Princess Leia (Endor), Wicket, and Biker Scout. And coincidentally, Hasbro also packed Lando Calrissian (Skiff Guard) in the same case assortment. There are too many frequently repacked figures entering the 6-inch format lately. It is a shame they didn’t develop the all-new Rebel Commando or Endor Rebel Solider in time to include these figures. We need more characters from Return Of The Jedi to interact with these action figures, and Hasbro isn’t adding them into the 6-inch line quickly enough. While we wait, collectors will appreciate the main heroes from the Original Trilogy until more enter the line. Han Solo (Endor) retails for $24.99, sadly a standard price for figures in this line.
Status: Han Solo (Endor) is a slight repaint of 2020's TBS [P4] Han Solo (Endor) (ROTJ05) figure.
