Black Krrsantan - TBS [PP] - Six Inch Figures

The ferocious and skilled Wookiee gladiator turned bounty hunter, Black Krrsantan has worked for the likes of Jabba the Hutt and Darth Vader.

Some call him Black Krrsantan, while others on the inside call him “Newbacca.” The dark-furred Wookiee partnered with Doctor Aphra in the Darth Vader comics series years later and became a live-action character in The Book Of Boba Fett. With multiple notable appearances in the Disney Star Wars universe, it finally made sense for Hasbro to add the character into The Black Series 6-inch line. But as expected, they’ve taken too many shortcuts, which prevents the action figure from looking screen-accurate. We’d go so far as to say that we wish they spent a little more time on the figure’s details and paint job before finalizing it for release because we don’t think it’s at the same level of authenticity as other action figures in the line. Hasbro took 2014’s TBS [P2] Chewbacca (#04) figure, tooled a new portrait, added a new bandolier, and completely repainted the action figure in the trademark dark fur we see in the comics and the live-action series. Not only did Hasbro not get the deco correct, but the “old” tooling of the Chewbacca base figure is obsolete by today’s standards. You’ll become instantly frustrated by how minimally the joints move. When did we ever find these limitations successful?

Unlike Chewbacca, Hasbro didn’t give Black Krrsantan any texture in the fur. They only used one color for the action figure. But if you look at all of the character’s sources, you’ll find some whitening of the fur, especially on the head and face, that this action figure doesn’t have. The lack of white or gray hair prevents this action figure from looking like the sourced characters, and we find that disappointing. A little bit of extra deco would have made a difference here, but Hasbro could be bothered. Why are they now taking so many extreme shortcuts with their “bread and butter” line? They’re irritating collectors, and the toys aren’t up to the same level of quality as those released years ago. With so many advancements made with the 6-inch figure line, now is not the time to go cheap, especially when most of the figure has reused parts. Thankfully, the armor helps hide much of the figure’s sins, and Hasbro did an excellent job designing it. It’s an attractive addition to the figure and makes it look good. The lack of face deco also makes it difficult to make out the character’s eyes, which are essential to the stories told of the character, were visible, like in the comics.

Worse, Hasbro didn’t include the character’s full armory, and they only included Chewbacca’s standard bowcaster. It fits alright in the figure’s hands, but where are the larger heavy assault blaster rifles and other artillery that helps to give this character the necessary street credit it needs to battle in the Star Wars universe? Despite lacking accessories, Hasbro included a spot to attach the bowcaster when not in use, and we appreciate its inclusion here. Still, no matter what Hasbro did to make this figure engaging for the average 6-inch collectors, the age-old tooling will be the nail in the coffin. The joints don’t move in any meaningful ways, and you can’t get a full range of motion out of them, and trying to get the action figure in some action-oriented poses is not entirely possible. Part of the “Publishing Program” sub-line of 6-inch figures, Black Krrsantan comes in nicely designed packaging that resembles a comic book. The artwork is lovely and opens up like a book with a summary about the featured character inside. Typically available throughout the Fan Channel, we see a wider distribution of these specific figures implemented to reach a wider audience.
