The Star Wars Retro Collection is inspired by 1970s STAR WARS figures and features original figure design and detailing! Continue your collection from the galaxy far, far away!
Hasbro is quite eager to produce characters for the Retro Collection. While their commitment or focus has waned to recreate The Ninety Six in The Vintage Collection, they’re more ready to continue adding characters into the Retro Collection lineup. This Kenner-esque 5POA line is controversial. Many collectors hate the line. Others love it for how it pays homage to classic Kenner. We’re somewhere in the middle. We love the Kenner line, but is that format something new Disney Star Wars Entertainment needs to have produced? We won’t answer that question either way, but we do know that Hasbro needs to do something different with the line because it feels stale, and a new line should feel fresh and exciting. Why does Hasbro focus on the same half-dozen characters in every stinking action figure format? Can’t they work harder on adding background characters to help create variety and diversity in the line? Does any Star Wars collector need The Armorer in The Black Series line, The Vintage Collection line, as a “Carbonized” figure, as a Credit Collection addition, and now a Retro Collection figure? Is it like Hasbro treats The Armorer character like Boba Fett or Darth Vader? It’s madness. With all that said, the Retro Collection The Armorer is an excellent action figure. Hasbro worked in a soft-goods shawl with elastic to attach to the figure’s arms, which is rare for this collection. The Armorer also comes with two welding tools; a hammer and a grasper. The sculpting and the paint operations are beautiful, and we’re impressed with how much detail they incorporated into a 5POA action figure. If you’re a fan of this commemorative-esque line, then more power to you. We’re a bit impartial now, but this is not where we want to see the 3.75-inch action figure format head under the Hasbro Star Wars brand.
