Commemorate the first 50 years of Lucasflm with figures inspired by Star Wars: The Clone Wars!
The Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary commemorative releases are hitting all major focal points of the Hasbro Star Wars brand. We’ve received action figures based on the vintage Kenner line, the Episode I line, and now they’ve opened up the floodgates and produced characters from The Clone Wars released on the packaging that mimics the line look of 2008. And they’re beautiful. Hasbro may have opened up a can of worms here. In all honesty, The Black Series 6” figures never looked better in the past Hasbro line styles Hasbro used for all of the 3.75-inch action figure lineups. And yes, while we’re frustrated to see such a heavy concentration of 6-inch figures in this format, we can’t help but give credit where credit due. The Lucasfilm 50th “The Clone Wars” figures are gorgeous. And Obi-Wan Kenobi impressed us beyond our expectations. It is a realistic interpretation of the first The Clone Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (No. 2) figure.
Based on the first appearance we see of him in The Clone Wars film, the 6” figure comes with phase I clone trooper armor and a lightsaber to complete the outfit. Also, Hasbro presents the figure in a realistic style, making it the first time a realistically styled The Clone Wars figure has appeared in the packaging! How is that for anachronism?! Obi-Wan Kenobi is a mostly all-new figure. The head sculpt looks as if Hasbro used it before, but we can’t find a previously utilized portrait that is the same as this one. Obi-Wan Kenobi did have a distinct hairstyle in The Clone Wars, so to makes sense if it was new or slightly tweaked. The figure does, however, borrow the arms and lower legs of 2020’s TBS [P4] Clone Trooper (Kamino) (TCW01) figure. But the rest of the figure is all-new, and that’s including the head sculpt that we’re not entirely sure about at the moment.
This 6” release is not the first realistic interpretation of Obi-Wan Kenobi from The Clone Wars film. If you recall, Hasbro produced 2012’s TVC Obi-Wan Kenobi (VC103) figure and then reissued it in 2021, much to the pleasure of collectors of the line. Obi-Wan Kenobi has a stunning articulation system and can attain several action-oriented poses. The figure looks great and poses excellently, so you’re going to be happy with the results here. The lightsaber accessory breaks down into hilt and blade, and the figure wears the hilt on the belt when not in use. The WORST thing about this figure is that it’s a Target exclusive and produced in limited numbers as all Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary figures are. They’re already going for an arm and leg on the aftermarket. The entire line will be hot. Grab them if you see them. The Clone Wars focus was a bold move that paid off big for Hasbro. The packaging and the figures are beautiful.
Status: Obi-Wan Kenobi is a kit-bashed figure that uses the arms and lower legs of 2020's TBS [P4] Clone Trooper (Kamino) (TCW01) figure. The rest of the figure is all-new.
