Brave REBEL PILOT of the awesome A-WING FIGHTER. Took an active part in the successful attack on the new, more powerful DEATH STAR.
The A-Wing Pilot was one of two figures carried forward into Kenner’s DROIDS line that didn’t receive any changes. Of course, the other is Boba Fett, and it’s a shame they didn’t take the time to recolor the action figure since the character’s costume in DROIDS is entirely different from the ones we see in the Original Trilogy. Kenner not only re-released 1985’s POTF A-Wing Pilot figure in the DROIDS line, but they also released the character’s vehicle, the A-Wing Fighter. It’s an excellent vehicle and became the template for many modern versions released a decade later and longer. The A-Wing Pilot has some exciting scenes in the DROIDS television series but mainly functions as a background character. The figure comes with the standard articulation of the standard Kenner Star Wars figures, and instead of a silver coin, it’s gold this time, but otherwise identical. Kenner didn’t change the figure’s weapon. A-Wing Pilot comes with that tiny black blaster pistol that disappears forever as soon as you remove it from the bubble. The card art for the A-Wing Pilot is delightful. It features the A-Wing Pilot running on a desert terrain with Artoo-Detoo (R2-D2) and See-Threepio (C-3PO) in the background, looking worried and concerned from a distance. But the scene is quite colorful and takes away from the impending danger sketched into it.
