Kez-Iban

General analysis!

An alien from TAMMUZAN who has been stripped of his mind by the evil Vizier ZATEC-CHA. JANN TOSH rescues him from KLEB ZELLOCK.

Mixing up and misspelling characters’ names isn’t anything new for Kenner. You will find through various DROIDS merchandise that Kenner spells the name of this character interchangeably as Kez Iban, or the correct version, Kez-Iban. Kez-Iban’s real name is Mon Julpa, and the on-screen character is disguised in many ways, up to and including a droid, as he travels through the universe trying to recall his roots. He befriends Jann Tosh and ends up working with Uncle Gundy in the mines. Ultimately, his birthright as the Crowned Prince comes to light and then upgrades his identity as King of Tammuz-an during the reign of the Galactic Empire. Kenner’s action figure interpretation of Kez-Iban is not terrible. It’s the tallest figure in the entire DROIDS lineup and probably the most colorful. The character’s lavender skin color is accented with tufts of yellow hair. And the character’s large eyes absorb most of the character’s personality, especially since Kez-Iban is scantily-clad. The figure comes with a removable blue satchel and a black Stormtrooper blaster. It has an excellent center of gravity and is a welcomed addition to the line. Had the second wave of DROIDS figures been released, Kenner produced Kez-Iban in the character’s king gear and named it Mon Julpa. To date, the entire wave remains unreleased.
