Darth Maul's Mandalorians modified their armor to reflect allegiance to the Dark Lord. These super commandos wore red and black, and some even fashioned horns atop their helmet.
The Walmart exclusive The Black Series [Phase IV] 6" figures based on The Clone Wars are incredible additions to the Star Wars action figure line. While we would have loved to have seen them produced for The Vintage Collection instead, 6" collectors should consider themselves fortunate that Hasbro is making so many colorful and diverse characters from the series' seventh and final season. Like the Mandalorian Loyalist, the Mandalorian Super Commando comes from mostly parts utilized with 2016's TBS [P3] Jango Fett (15) figure. Hasbro took the Mandalorian Loyalist (TCW04) figure, added a new head sculpt and new upper arms. Then they repainted the figure to resemble the bodywork art of Darth Maul and called it a day. The final result is spectacular, and the Mandalorian Super Commando is one of the standout figures in the line to date. If you were a fan of the original run of The Clone Wars, you know how vital the Mandalorians were to the story now. With a concurrently running Disney+ series called The Mandalorian, this human species' backstory gets further developed, and a cast of new characters enters the storyline. But regardless of where the focus is, there is no doubt that getting figures like the Mandalorian Super Commando is what makes the hobby so much dang fun.
Using the 2016 release of The Black Series [Phase III] 6" Jango Fett (15) figure to make the new Mandalorian 6" figures was one of Hasbro's wisest decisions in years. The tooling of this figure is versatile enough to provide a base for other Mandalorian action figures. From the jumpsuit to the armored panels, the original Jango Fett figure offers an excellent basis for easy retools and repaints in The Black Series 6" line, including the Mandalorian Super Commando. The Mandalorian Super Commando comes with 28 points of articulation across 16 areas. These points include a ball-socket head, a hinge-jointed neck, ball-jointed shoulders, ball-jointed elbows, ball-jointed wrists, a ball-jointed torso, ball-socket hips, swivel thighs, double hinge-jointed knees, and ball-jointed/"rocker" ankles. The joints move with precision and such smoothness. It's the way Hasbro should design all action figure joints. The Mandalorian Super Commando's new parts include the helmet )With customized horn) and upper arms, including the shoulder arm, which sports some of the horns as well. Loosely based on the "helmeted" version of Gar Saxon, the somewhat "generic" Mandalorian Super Commando may not have everything the on-screen character has, including a removable helmet and human portrait underneath of it.
For accessories, the Mandalorian Super Commando comes with a removable jetpack and two Mandalorian blaster pistols. They're the same ones that came with the Mandalorian Loyalist (TCW04) figure but are differently colored for this release. Hasbro designed the figure's hands to accommodate the guns beautifully, and the three holes on the figure's back accept the jetpack firmly and stay in place no matter how you pose the figure. These two Mandalorian action figure releases may be the only version of Mandalorians we receive from The Clone Wars. Hasbro isn't keen on producing a lot of characters from the popular seven-season series. Hasbro's primary focus is on The Mandalorian Disney+ series, and that's where we'll see a more prominent development of characters. It's a shame that the current Hasbro Star Wars Team squandered countless opportunities on The Clone Wars series as far as action figures are concerned. And if we're honest, they're wasting The Mandalorian show too. Vehicles are HasLab exclusives. Four 3.75" action figures exist as of the end of 2020 for The Mandalorian. Hasbro's next "big" release for The Mandalorian is 5POA Retro Collection figures. What's going on anymore? We digress, but we hope they won't ever forget about The Clone Wars. There are so many characters to produce.
Status: Mandaloria Super Commando is a retool and repaint of 2020's TBS [P4] Mandalorian Loyalist (TCW04) figure, which is a retool and repaint of 2016's TBS [P3] Jango Fett (15) figure. This time the figure comes with an all-new portrait, and new upper arms. The figure has also been complete repainted.
