Supreme Chancellor Palpatine created a Grand Army of the Republic, featuring legions of clone troopers, massive star cruisers, and advanced weaponry.
We understand that Hasbro has limited resources for compiling sets based on 5POA action figures. The limited stock also determines how many themes they can assemble to make multipacks. But why in the world would they develop a set based on the Galactic Republic when all of the figures contained within it are the first 5POA sculpts produced? The 5POA line came very far in the last couple of years. But dusting off tooling from 2013, where figure proportions aren’t screen-accurate and paint operations weak, doesn’t seem like a wise decision to sell it to collectors seven years later. The Galactic Republic set focuses on The Prequel Trilogy and The Clone Wars television show. 60% of the multipack is from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith, but none of the characters interacted together on film. One figure is based on the Battle of Geonosis from Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. And then the “star” of the five-pack is OOM-10 from The Clone Wars’ third season episode entitled “The Citadel.” What a shame to get this B1 Battle Droid Commander finally, but only with limited 5POA articulation. It’s quite a disappointment.
OOM-10 is based on the B1 battle droid that was released in the Mission Series line in 2013. The figure comes with a swivel head, two swivel shoulders, and two swivel hips. The figure also has a terrible balance. You’ll find it quite challenging to stand the figure upright without it falling down. It comes with a backpack and a droid blaster. There is a slot in the backpack to secure the droid blaster when stored. It also helps to anchor the figure and prevent it from toppling over, as long as you balance the legs properly. The deco on OOM-10 is outstanding. The blue color is gorgeously applied, and the lines are neat and clean and look professionally done. It pains us that Hasbro didn’t dust off 2012’s TVC Battle Droid (VC78) figure and give us a super-articulated version of this battle droid commander instead. If they can provide collectors with a TVC-quality astromech droid in other sets, why not give us a TVC-quality Battle Droid Commander in this set instead? We still believe that collectors will find a use for this simple OOM-10 action figure in their collections. It will work well for realistically-styled displays, as well as animated ones.
The rest of the Galactic Empire set is an overall disappointment. The Phase I Clone Trooper has a decent head sculpt, the “clown shoes” it has for feet, as well as the rest of the clones in this set, are out of proportion and aesthetically distracting. It would have been smarter if Hasbro gave the Phase I Clone Trooper red or yellow color flashes to be a captain or commander. Unfortunately, they didn’t take the opportunity to update the paint operations on any of the Clone Troopers contained with this multipack. You also get a Shock Trooper and a 501st Legion Trooper. The Phase II buckets don’t look right to us, and we’re not sure why Hasbro thought these would be wise repacks for 2020. There are so many other 5POA action figures that would have made more sense, and they produced a ton of characters from The Empire Strikes Back, which would have been “right on time” to celebrate its 40th Anniversary. Lastly, Commander Cody is the last figure to make up this quintet. And once again, Hasbro did nothing to update the figures’ desperate need for paint operation enhancements. The complete backside of the figure is white. There are no other details at all. This set retails for $29.99 and is a Fan Channel exclusive.
