Totally loyal to Emperor Palpatine, Imperial shock troops, or stormtroopers, are unlike regular Imperial soldiers. Clad in white-and-black armored spacesuits, they are deployed to neutralize resistance to the New Order. Stormtroopers are also stationed aboard Imperial vessels to be used as first-strike forces. Trained to obey orders, stormtroopers will rush into combat without a thought for their own safety.
In addition to the main legions, a number of special stormtrooper units have been assembled to operate on the varied planets and climates of the Empire. On the desert planet of Tatooine, sandtroopers are specialty trained to operate in the planet's hot, dry climate. With specialized uniforms, equipped with a backpack containing an energy source and portable environment, these Imperial soldiers are expert desert combatants.
Authentically styled straight from Star Wars, the sandtrooper is armored with his concussion-grenade launcher, environmental survival pack and shoulder pauldron. This special edition 12" figure, available for the first time ever, is destined to become a classic collectible.
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!
It was only a matter of time that Kenner/Hasbro produced a Santrooper for the Collector Series line after they introduced the Stormtrooper. But unfortunately, they crafted the Sandtrooper from a terrible interpretation of the Stormtrooper. Bulky armor, a horrid portrait, and a senseless approach plague the Stormtrooper and Sandtrooper Collector Series figures. And using one to create another is like trying to cut the holes out of your blanket to get rid of them. Things only get worse from here, and that’s about where we are with the Diamond exclusive Sandtrooper. Based on the orange pauldron, this version of the Sandtrooper is a squad leader. Kenner/Hasbro added flecks of dirt, which presumably is supposed to be the Tatooine sand. But it’s too faint, and light and the flecks are so tiny that they’re barely noticeable. The armor doesn’t have any staining or collection of dirt anywhere on it. The deco is a major disappointment here. The biggest positive here is the wonderfully designed survival backpack. Kenner/Hasbro did a fantastic job with its realism, and the deco on it isn’t terrible either. It’s a bit difficult to install on the figure’s back, but it is possible. And the blaster rifle looks good too. The bottom line, however, is that the Sandtrooper is an overt disappointment. It’s one of the worst figures in the Collector Series line. And that is an unfortunate fact.
Status: Sandtrooper is a repaint and retool of 1997's POTF2 [R/G] Stormtrooper Collector Series figure. This time the figure has been completely repainted and given new gear.
