As the Collector Series line transitioned into the Action Collection line in 1998, Kenner/Hasbro decided to add a ton of previously released figures for reasons many collectors don’t understand. While they added some incredible new gems like the Snowtrooper and Emperor Palpatine, most of the line were rehashes with some receiving a few tweaks here and there to make them feel new and revitalized for the 1998 lineup. Luke Skywalker (In Hoth Gear) didn’t bring much newness to the line at all. First released as part of 1997’s POTF2 [R/G] Luke Skywalker Vs. Wampa Collector Series set, Kenner/Hasbro took the Luke Skywalker figure and added “snow” all over the figure to make it unique from the original release. From the bottom of the boots to the top of the figure’s cap, Luke Skywalker (In Hoth Gear) looks like it’s experienced the icy Hoth tundra looking for any signs of life out there. Sadly, the head sculpt of Luke Skywalker (In Hoth Gear) is old and tired. It’s time for Kenner/Hasbro to retire the molds for this figure. The costuming is relatively accurate and fits the figure well. But all together, you’ll feel like the figure needs some significant refreshing here and there to be more screen-accurate. Luke Skywalker (In Hoth Gear) comes with many accessories, some of which aren’t utilized by the character in The Empire Strikes Back. If you have the Luke Skywalker Vs. Wampa set, you likely don’t need this figure just for the extra deco.
