As the home of the Rebel Alliance's Echo Base, the ice planet Hoth became the site of a terrible engagement between the Imperials and the Rebel Alliance. Because of extreme weather conditions, Rebel vehicles and machinery had to be modified. Rebel employed tauntauns to use as mounts and pack animals. With their thick, gray fur, the easily domesticated tauntauns are protected from the extreme cold.
Han Solo used the swift and sure-footed animals in his search for Luke Skywalker, who had been attacked by the wampa ice creature. Upon Solo's discovery of Luke's body, the arduous search and night temperatures proved too much for the tauntaun. It collapsed in the snow, and Solo had no choice but to use its innards to warm the almost frozen Skywalker, ultimately saving his life.
Authentically styled straight from the movies, Han Solo features his highly detailed uniform complete with tauntaun, scanner, macrobinoculars, blaster and more! This special edition set, available for the first time ever, is destined to become a classic collectible.
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!
In 1997, the Star Wars Collector Series toy line took collectors to new heights when Kenner/Hasbro decided to add 12” scaled beast to the line. Their first, Han Solo & Tauntaun was a Toys R Us exclusive. For $49.99, collectors received a 12” scaled Tauntaun on a smaller scale than the creature in the film. It also came with Han Solo donning his parka from Echo Base. The set is nice, but it is far from perfection. Han Solo’s likeness could use some work, but we feel that Kenner/Hasbro nailed the costume beautifully. The hood pulls up over the cap and goggles, and it looks fitted, yet bushy as it should. Han Solo comes with scanners, the ones he used to locate the missing Luke Skywalker, as well as macrobinoculars, and his signature blaster. Han Solo looks great next to the Tauntaun. But we had some issues with the Tauntaun slipping out of the poses we chose for it due to loose joints. From a design position, the Tauntaun is a lovely toy. Hasbro nailed the face of it perfectly, and other details like the arms and legs appear to match the creature. It feels like you get value from this set. Fifty bucks feel like a lot of money, but it pales in comparison when a two-pack of Collector Series figures from FAO Schwarz costs more than that. The Han Solo & Tauntaun Collector Series set will likely go down in Star Wars collecting history as one of Kenner/Hasbro’s boldest moments. This release is unlike anything they’ve done to date.
