What is the correct way to source a figure when the images on the packaging reflect one movie, but the bio describes another? There may be an easier way to confirm this. When it comes to the Power Of The Jedi Death Star Trooper Action Collection figure, it looks like the character is based on Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi based on the costume details. Plus, the inclusion of an interchangeable black cap is more congruous to what we see in Episode VI, versus Episode IV. The Death Star Trooper has become a bone of contention for Star Wars collectors no matter the scale Hasbro makes the character. They seemingly ignore the gray-suited character that was represented in the vintage Kenner line. And instead, have focused on the black-outfitted technicians wearing the wide helmets and others with caps. The latter is the character represented here in the Action Collection line. Hasbro did a decent job on this character in the line, but it still has some issues that quite a few collectors won’t be able to overcome.
The Death Star Trooper has a generic likeness. We can’t tell at all if this is supposed to be a specific character from Return Of The Jedi, or A New Hope for that matter. Regardless of being unidentifiable, the Action Collection figure looks pretty good. Hasbro utilized a “newer” buck to develop this figure. So it comes with a little more articulation than past figures, although not by that much. Hasbro designed a very nice soft-goods outfit to cover the figure, and it is representative of the outfit we see in the Original Trilogy, complete with the Galactic Empire’s insignia on the shoulder. The figure has brown hair and white skin. The figure has an odd expression of friendliness, but he also looks unassuming as well. Whether following orders on the Death Star or a Star Destroyer, the Death Star Trooper is an excellent addition to the Action Collection line and surprising addition to the line. We didn’t expect Hasbro to bring this figure to the 12 Inch Figures line, but we’re glad they did. Now if they can work on the gray commander outfit next!
Death Star Trooper comes with the standard removable helmet. It’s cast in very thick and heavy plastic. Unfortunately, the fit is a little too loose for its head and slips rather easily. We don’t understand why Hasbro made the weight of it so heavy. It also feels like it’s too large and over-scaled for the figure’s head. Thankfully, Hasbro also included a cap that fits much better on top of the figure’s head, and the Death Star Trooper looks better wearing this accessory instead of the main one. Also included is a blaster. It looks more like an Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot’s blaster than anything else, but the figure can hold it well. What’s more, Hasbro added a functioning holster on the belt, and you can house the blaster there when not in use. Not the best figure in the Action Collection lineup, the figure won’t hold up throughout the years. It is an admirable effort for the Power Of The Jedi line, but it still has many problems. The gloves are huge. The arm articulation isn’t ideal and limiting. The helmet is obnoxiously heavy (and large). You catch our drift.
