When Senator Palpatine was elected president of the Republic, young Tarkin, with his fierce demeanor and piercing eyes, rose in the ranks from the governor of the Seswenna sector to moff, leading governors in many sectors. In time, Moff Tarkin acquired his title as the first Grand Moff which granted him unlimited decision-making power.
Grand Moff Tarkin both devised and executed plans for an installation, a think tank where Imperial geniuses would convene to create the plans for the Death Star,
Tarkin became one of Emperor Palpatine's top advisors and went on to oversee and mediate the construction of the first Death Star. Rebel spies confiscated the secret plans for the battle station. When Tarkin became aware of the stolen readouts he dispatched Darth Vader to apprehend the Rebels. Vader brought back Princes Leia as his captive. Tarkin ordered Leia interrogated by a needle-wielding interrogation droid. When the droid and the interrogation failed, Grand Moff Tarkin and Vader agreed to have the battle station moved to orbit Leia's home planet, Alderaan.
Imperial gunners have the crucial responsibility of controlling the Death Star's superlaser. Part of a special sub-unit of the Imperial pilot corps, Imperial gunners are highly trained weapon masters. The gunners are recognized by their specialized computer helmets equipped with macrobinocular viewplates and sensor arrays to assist with detecting fast moving enemy aircraft. The Imperial gunners along with Grand Moff Tarkin were personally responsible for the destruction of Alderaan.
Authentically styled straight from Star Wars, Grand Moff Tarkin features his highly detailed uniform complete with rank insignia, along with his interrogator droid. The Imperial gunner features his highly detailed uniform complete with specialized computer helmet. These 12" figures, available for the first time ever, are destined to become a classic collectible.
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!
After Hasbro got out all of the basic waves of Collector Series figures, they began going to town working on some fantastic retailer exclusives. One such exclusive was the FAO Schwarz exclusive Grand Moff Tarkin & Imperial Gunner (With Interrogator Droid) two-pack. Beautifully packaged in a window box with a dioramic backdrop that could be cut out and displayed on a shelf with the figures, Kenner/Hasbro produced a duo of two characters fans of the Star Wars toy line have wanted to see produced in 12 Inch Figure scale for a long time. With great likenesses and screen-specific accessories, the Grand Moff Tarkin & Imperial Gunner (With Interrogator Droid) set gives us two remarkable figures based on characters from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Grand Moff Tarkin comes with an Interrogator Droid. Sadly, it doesn’t come with a stand. And the figure looks odd holding it. The Imperial Gunner (kudos to Kenner/Hasbro for keeping the 1985 POTF Imperial Gunner’s name consistent here) comes with an E-11 blaster. We also appreciate the leather elements added to the figure’s costume too. And the helmeted portrait is excellent. Retailing for $59.99, the set was expensive, but Kenner/Hasbro promised collectors that a significant part of the release would remain exclusive to FAO Schwarz and not be released in any other capacity.
