The Galaxy Of Adventures line is straddling a precarious fence, and it seems to be leaning on the side of doom. Sadly, the line isn’t picking up the momentum it needs to be a success. While Hasbro should be punished for the case assortments they put together for this line (some of the WORST ratios and repeated figures imaginable), collectors of the Star Wars brand don’t seem that interested in pursuing a new scale of figures when there is so much competing for our competition on a daily basis. Star Wars has sickeningly become a toxic property to retailers, so their reluctance to add new stuff to their inventory that doesn’t already have a successful sales record is not something they’re willing to take risks on anymore. With one bad move after another, and trying to desperately garner the attention of a market they’ll never have, Hasbro is taking too many left turns with the brand, and sacrificing income that longtime collectors are willing to spend on stuff they want to purchase. So, no matter how great the Galaxy Of Adventures 5” line is, it’s not going to mean a hill of beans to collectors desperate the “Collect All 92” original Kenner figures in the modern line. Despite this, we’re going to champion for the line, because it’s done very well.
C-3PO makes up one of two NEW figures in the second wave of Galaxy Of Adventures line. Instead of holding off on Han Solo and C-3PO until Boba Fett, Darth Maul, Yoda and the Sith Jet Trooper were ready for release, Hasbro mixed the two new figure with a bevy of repacks that are already clogging the pegs at retail. And if anyone is collecting this line, they’ll be cherry-picking these two new figures while allowing more of the same to collect on store shelves and pile up for inevitable clearance. If you are fortunate enough to find C-3PO ANYWHERE you’ll discover that it’s a small departure from what Hasbro has already done on the 5” Galaxy of Adventures line. The action feature applied to C-3PO is like no other in the line to date. When you press the controls box on his back, his head, left arm and both legs pop off in an explosive-like manner. Loaded with ball-jointed and swivel articulation, C-3PO is a bit different when it comes to the figure’s articulation system as well. Because of the inherent nature of the droid’s design, Hasbro added swivel biceps. And instead of ball-socket hips, they worked in ball-jointed hips, we imagine, to help out with the action feature. The figure’s joints are a little loose, and the head pops off quite easily, but it does hold together when needed.
With vac-metallization no longer an option, Hasbro colored C-3PO in a rich, pearly yellow that complements the figure nicely. We believe that C-3PO is inspired both from his appearance in the Droid cartoon series as well as The Clone Wars, as evidenced by the pupils on the photoreceptors. Whenever C-3PO has pupils, it gives the character a wholly different appearance. This figure fits that bill. Lastly, Hasbro ensure they gave C-3PO a silver right leg, which documents that this figure is inspired by the C-3PO we see in the Original Trilogy. C-3PO comes without any accessories, which is rare for the figures in the Galaxy of Adventures line, but what could he come with that would make much sense? It is a shame that he didn’t come with a cargo net for Chewbacca to wear so the Wookiee could carry him around Bespin as needed (since C-3PO breaks apart). When posed next to R2-D2 and BB-8 (also in the Galaxy Of Adventures line), C-3PO is perfectly in scale with other figures. We’ll need many more characters from the Original Trilogy to complement C-3PO a little bit more. Here’s hoping the line is successful enough to keep this scale alive and well. C-3PO is another wonderful addition to the Galaxy of Adventures line. But Hasbro will need to keep pumping them out to make sure the generate enough interest. Make some aliens now!
