At the moment, the Galaxy Of Adventures line has three facets. Hasbro produced the standard 5” line at $9.99 each. They’ve also produced a figure and vehicle line that has an MSRP of $24.99. And finally, they put together a “deluxe” style of figures (which in this case contains three characters) for $14.99. There’s something for everyone in this line, and they’re cleverly thinking about how to release characters from Star Wars Entertainment that makes the most sense. Enter the R2-D2/BB-8/D-O three-pack. We get a decent amount of plastic here for $14.99, and three unique droids that have important roles in Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker, and perhaps subsequent stories in the Galaxy Of Adventures multimedia event. The rebirth of this line lends hope that this miniature franchise in Disney Star Wars will grow into something bigger and better over time. We hope that’s the case because the line is exceeding our expectations. Hopefully, it will exceed yours too.
The R2-D2/BB-8/D-O isn’t revolutionary. You’re getting three characters that you probably aren’t that excited to see produced in another scale of action figures. Yes, D-O is an all-new character, but Hasbro produced him for The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line, and we imagine a version of it isn’t too far away for The Vintage Collection either. But this three-pack of droids helps fill in the missing pieces with the basic $9.99 range of the line. And they help to complete scenes and dioramas you want to creates but need background characters to do so. All of the figures here look good, and they’re admirable additions to the Galaxy Of Adventures line. They come with minimal articulation, as well as some action features. Hasbro worked them into the figures nicely, but for some figures, like BB-8, for example, the action feature is a tad intrusive and affects the aesthetics of the figure. For BB-8, there is a button you click to release a “spinning” feature, and it makes it difficult to balance the figure on it.
R2-D2, for the first time, comes with ball-socket feet. They provide a range of motion we haven’t seen on any astromech droid before that we can recall but makes for an interesting way to articulate the figure. Hasbro did a good job at “animating” R2-D2. He looks a bit more rotund than usual, and perhaps a little more stout. But he has all of the unforgettable features and characteristics that we have emblazoned on our brains when we think about him. He doesn’t come with any noteworthy features this time, and we imagine he was tooled so that collectors could interact this figure with other figures in the line, especially the announced C-3PO figure. D-O is nearly impossible, if not completely impossible, to stand upright. It comes with a couple of points of articulation, which allows you to pose the droid in interesting ways. But its center of gravity makes posing it frustrating. Regardless, R2-D2/BB-8/D-O is a fun three-pack of figures, and worth your consideration.
