Born on the planet Rodia, Greedo dreamed of being a great bounty hunter. Life on the planet was not an easy one for the young Greedo. His father, also a bounty hunter, was murdered and had his fortunes seized. Greedo's mother, pregnant at the time, left with young Greedo and his uncles to another planet. Years later, when Greedo was fifteen, their new home was invaded by the same Rodian who has slaughtered his father.
Greedo escaped with family members to the port moon of Nar Shaddaa, and began their new lives in the Corellian sector. There, in the busy district of Level 88, Greedo happened upon two bounty hunters, Spurch "Warhog" Goa and Dyyz Nataz, who were then attacked by an enormous cyborg, and by chance, Greedo saved their lives. He then became an apprentice to "Warhog" Goa, learning the trade of bounty hunter. During the attack on the Rebels bu the Imperials on Level 88, Goa, Greedo and Dyyz escaped to Tatooine and hooked up with the obese crime lord, Jabba the Hutt. Jabba had a fondness for Rodians, and awarded Greedo the exclusive contract on Han Solo's head.
Unfortunately, the task proved to be too difficult for the Rodian. He and Solo confronted each other in the Mos Eisley Cantina, and Solo was forced to dispose of the hunter in order to save his own life. The bartender then recovered Greedo's body to use in the bar's still. What resulted was the most potent tasting phenomenal drink for which Jabba the Hutt payed [sic] a handsome price.
Authentically styled straight from Star Wars, Greedo comes complete with his signature blaster. This special edition 12" figure, available for the first time ever, is destined to become a classic collectible.
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!
The Star Wars collecting community panicked when Kenner/Hasbro announced that Greedo was part of the Collector Series line, but as a retailer exclusive. JC Penney was the local of choice, and collectors became immediately concerned over the figure’s availability, and if we’d be chasing our tails attempting to acquire one for our collections. Although shipped in sparing numbers, Greedo eventually made it out in greater quantity. But once most of us had the figure in our hands, we began to question why we acted so desperately trying to secure one for our collections. The figure didn’t turn out too well. Like many other figures in the Collector Series line, the packaging paints a very disparate difference when compared to the contents inside of the box. Greedo’s head sculpt and outfit are cast in the wrong colors; he comes with an oddly-shaped portrait; he has a permanently affixed blaster pistol in his right hand; and he's dressed in soft-goods that look like he’s disco dancing instead of functioning as one of the galaxy’s most prolific bounty hunters. So much is “wrong” with Greedo, and we don’t think he will meet the needs of the collecting community. Kenner/Hasbro is having difficulty when it comes to the non-human characters, and we find that a bit strange. Human likenesses are typically more difficult to get right, but the converse is true with Hasbro, or so it seems. A JC Penney exclusive with an MSRP of $24.99, Greedo is also part of the new Action Collection line which started in January of 1998.
