Qui-Gon Jinn (Electronic Talking) - EI - 12 Inch Figures

An accomplished Jedi Master, Qui-Gon Jinn is a powerful warrior closely attuned to the ways of the Force. Amidst the Trade Federation's invasion of Naboo, Qui-Gon and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi confront their greatest enemy yet, the evil Sith Lord Darth Maul. As if the Action Collection line didn’t bring enough characters from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace to collectors, the creation of another sub-line, the “Electric Talking” 12 Inch Figures, brings new versions of previously released characters to the line a second time. Including movie phrases and sound effects from Episode I, Qui-Gon Jinn (Electronic Talking) is a gimmicky action figure that may or may not appeal to collectors, depending upon what they’re looking for in the 12 Inch Figure line. The sculpt of Qui-Gon Jinn (Electronic Talking) is rather excellent. Like the Action Collection versions, Qui-Gon Jinn (Electronic Talking) comes with a combination of rooted and molded hair. The length of his hair is significantly longer than that of the Action Collection versions of Qui-Gon Jinn, and his face sculpt is much narrower. Regardless, the likeness is in place. And Qui-Gon Jinn (Electronic Talking) has an open mouth that is “yelling” or “shouting” as if he’s battling Darth Maul in an epic lightsaber final duel.

This figure is extremely scene-specific. In a surprising move, Hasbro added soft-goods clothing to the figure. For us, the material utilized for the shirt is wasted. This line of figures functions more like a novelty than anything else, and we don’t know why Hasbro would add extra things like soft-goods that aren’t cost-effective to a figure like this. Because of the play features, Qui-Gon Jinn (Electronic Talking) has funky articulation. He has stiff arms, and loose wrists, and making him hold the included lightsaber is a task that frustrates unless you’re employing the play feature worked into the sculpt. Qui-Gon Jinn (Electronic Talking) has decent articulation, but nothing that’s out of the ordinary. And you may find that posing the figure becomes more of a chore than a joy thanks to his loose parts. This figure is more of a plaything than a collectible figure. Hasbro designed this line for kids because of their interactive play. Collectors will have to remember this fact so the figure will be less disappointing to them.

Despite the figure’s ball-socket hips, ball-jointed knees, and additional articulation, many of the points of articulation included here aren’t very functional. They’re more like “goodwill” than something that will help you pose the figure more easily. Hasbro may have saved some money in tooling costs by removing some of the unnecessary articulation. We’re not sure why a figure would need this much lower body movement when the point of the figure is to talk and swing a lightsaber, but that’s only our opinion. The only accessory included with Qui-Gon Jinn (Electronic Talking) is a lightsaber. Unlike most other Action Collection 12 Inch Figures, the blade isn’t removable on this version. That’s not a big deal as the whole point of Qui-Gon Jinn (Electronic Talking) is to swing a lightsaber which needs to be lit when you wield it. By moving the lever on his back from side to side, Qui-Gon Jinn (Electronic Talking) talks and releases “battle” sounds from the film. Other than that, this figure doesn’t do much else but look pretty.
