From the planet Gamorr, the Gamorrean species consists of brutish, porcine humanoids who maintain a feudal level of technology and tolerate a remarkable amount of violence in their everyday activities. Interstellar procedures programs for visiting Gamorr consist of one line: DO NOT VISIT GAMORR.

While Gamorreans have been introduced to modern blaster and weapon technology, they prefer to hack and slash with axes, swords and maces. They only use modern weaponry when off-planet. Most Gamorreans have green skin, pig-like snouts and yellowed tusks protruding from jowled cheeks. These complement the small, yellow horns the Gamorreans have growing from the top of their heads. Jabba the Hutt was known to use dim-witted Gamorreans as enforcers and bodyguards, outfitting them with leather and metal uniforms.

Wow. Sideshow continually impresses collectors with their imposing line of Life-Size Busts. Never afraid to pick “not the first choice” characters from the various Star Wars films, they still manage to capture unprecedented accuracy with the Life-Size Busts they decide to create. Return Of The Jedi has been getting some hefty amounts of love from Sideshow Collectibles lately, and the fans were treated to a quite amazing Life-Size Bust of the cherished Gamorrean Guard. Sideshow has created a spectacular product here, and the final production piece has exceeded the prototypes shown on their website. The Gamorrean Guard is now the largest Life-Size Bust collectors can purchase. And he is worth the space he takes in every way possible. Sideshow Collectibles completely replicated the portrait of this corpulent beast flawlessly, and we think it may remain one of their greatest and most thoughtful Life-Size Busts to date. As one of the first visages we saw in Episode VI, the Gamorrean Guard has left quite an impression on our memories and now we can have the most definitive collectible of it now with the release of this masterful work of art. It's truly a marvel to witness how large these creatures are. And to be able to see the human eyes behind the mask is gravy.

The Gamorrean Guard Life-Size Bust is flawless is almost every way, and the accuracy is uncanny. Sideshow decided to go with true costume accuracy, rather than character accuracy and we hope we can explain this well enough in this review. Instead of making a “Gamorrean Guard,” Sideshow opted to make it movie accurate. This means you can see the human eyes behind the mask and the areas around these human eyes have been painted green to match the “latex” of the mask. (Ha! Look at me CGI! I am a Star Wars character that "existed"!) This is truly screen accurate, and we are very excited that Sideshow went with this approach. Although this bust is 100% polystone, Sideshow has been sensitive to the various textures that exist on this costume, and the skin drastically differs in touch from the horns and armor and protruding teeth. It is expertly designed in every way possible. The execution of this bust is stunning, and it has quickly become of one our favorite pieces in the line already. One detail that exceeds or expectations from the prototype was the use of a shiny gloss to replicate the drool and slobber of these mucus-filled creatures. Look at our photo gallery to see this in detail, but this “gross” stuff is so realistic that we just love how it came out on this bust. Rotund, pig-like and probably the greatest creature in Jabba's palace, the Gamorrean Guard is a true treat in any Star Wars collection.

The Gamorrean Guard Life-Size Bust is very awkward to hold and has some significant weight to it, but it also feels hollow. It feels lighter than Greedo and Darth Maul, but there is much greater detail applied to the Gamorrean Guard. We recommend exercising extra care when moving it around your home. The center of gravity of the piece is not equally balanced and it feels like it wants to fall in one direction (depending upon which way you are carrying it). But once you get the Life-Size Bust situated, it will easily become the centerpiece (for the time being) of your collection. Sideshow added something extra to the bottom of the base. Instead of just a black numbered bottom, the artists designed it in color with a silhouette of Jabba’s palace in the background. It is very effective and very fitting for this bust. A little bit less than a year before this bust was released, Hasbro showed off some pictures of an upcoming 1:6 Scale Gamorrean Guard figure. It seems as if someone at Sideshow is a fan of Gamorreans and/or Return Of The Jedi. This suits us fine. Limited to only 300 pieces worldwide, the Gamorrean Guard Life-Size Bust will not be able to make all fans happy, but at least will be able to revel in the joy this piece will surely bring to those lucky enough to add it into their collections.
