Who else believed that Klaatu (In Skiff Guard Outfit) and Klaatu were the same characters but in different outfits? Yeah, I did too as a kid. As I got older I realized that they’re two different characters altogether. I was always partial to the first release of Klaatu. Between his excellent sculpt and premium soft-goods, I thought that Klaatu (In Skiff Guard Outfit) was a setback in a couple of ways. Sure, he came with an exclusive large force pike and we saw him on Jabba’s sail barge, but the sculpt wasn’t as crisp or dynamic as the regular Klaatu figure. Making its debut in the Jabba’s Dungeon playset, Klaatu (In Skiff Guard Outfit) arrived to young collectors along with Nikto and 8D8. It’s an alright figure, but it was never one of my favorites. And in retrospect I am disappointed I didn’t appreciate the figure more as a kid. But the seventh series of Kenner figures were, in all honesty, hit or miss for me. Hasbro made this figure a priority for 2019’s THE VINTAGE COLLECTION line, and it’s the first iteration of this character in 20 years from Hasbro.
