Anakin Skywalker - SW [S - P1] - 12 Inch Figures

It has been ten years since young Anakin Skywalker left his desert home to begin training as a Jedi apprentice. Under the mentorship of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin has become a confident, headstrong 19-year-old with an impulsive nature and a flair for adventure.

It goes without saying that the main hero in a Star Wars film is often overrepresented in the toy line. And this exactly applies to Anakin Skywalker. After countless basic 3.75” action figures, deluxe figures and corresponding vehicles, Anakin Skywalker also saw multiple released in Hasbro’s 12 Inch Figures line. In all honesty, Hasbro’s line of 12 Inch Figures is hit or miss, and Anakin Skywalker falls somewhere in the middle of the bad to good spectrum. The figure has a fair likeness to the actor and the buck utilized has a fair amount of articulation, but aesthetically Anakin Skywalker comes off as much too chunky and the figure’s proportions are out of whack to the point of requiring some much-needed tweaking. The 12 Inch Figures line isn’t always a hit out of the park, but most possess some redeeming qualities. This opinion also applies to Anakin Skywalker, so let’s take a closer look at what makes this figure shine.

Anakin Skywalker has a beautifully layered costume. He comes with an undershirt as well as an outer shirt. Then a faux leather tabard lays on top of both to complete the upper body look. He also comes with woven pants and left and right plastic boots. And lastly, Hasbro tooled a very detailed belt to hold everything together and to finish off his Jedi Knight look. Hasbro reused their standard buck for the Star Wars 12 Inch Figures line. So the same body is used for Anakin Skywalker. It provides adequate movement for the figure, but it isn’t ideal. He can hold his lightsaber well, and he’s able to attain some interesting poses, but you might feel disappointed that the figure’s range of movement isn’t completely uninhibited, because it is. Wrist articulation and ankle articulation would have been tremendous upgrades here, but the figure falls short with its articulation system. Just a few more points would have added significant movement.

Let’s go over Anakin Skywalker’s head sculpt. It’s hard to assess whether this figure has a good likeness or not. It resembles the character from Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones somewhat, but it is far from where it should be to absolutely and unequivocally capture the essence of the Jedi Knight in training. Firstly, his head is a tad too rounded. His eyes are too big, and his coloring is off a bit. The most jarring issue here is his hair color. The Anakin Skywalker 12 Inch Figure comes with blonde hair, whereas the onscreen character has brown hair (or at the very least has extreme “dirty blond” hair, and not “platinum blond” hair). Anakin Skywalker comes outfitted with a lightsaber that breaks down into a hilt and blade. Hasbro designed the hands to properly cup it effortlessly. Overall, Anakin Skywalker is a fair 12 Inch Figure, but it doesn’t rank as one of Hasbro best. We feel they could have done a few things differently to improve the figure a bit more.
