Rahm Kota's lack of faith in the clone troopers during the Clone Wars allowed this Jedi general to escape Order 66. After many years in exile, he launches a dangerous plan that leads to an unexpected encounter with Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice.
Hasbro must have not gotten the best reference materials when it came to developing the action figures based on The Force Unleashed from the 30 (77-07) basic figure line. This comment is not meant to cut down the final production results of each figure, but there seems to a few discrepancies on all seven that are clearly not that accurate to the characters seen in the video game. Interestingly, Rahm Kota is one of the seven The Force Unleashed basic figures that looks pretty close to his video counterpart. And his biggest difference is that he comes across as a much wiser and older or seasoned Jedi than the younger looking model who portrayed him in the game. A Jedi full of wisdom, we think the action figure is a better representation of who the character of Rahm Kota should be. The good news is that the early concept art or preliminary designs must have not changed that much as Rahm Kota has all of the scarring in his face that he should have. And the wonderful details don't stop there. Rahm Kota offers a lot for an action figure and we is very well made and designed for even the most finicky collector. We wish his portrait looked more like the video game character for authenticity reasons, but besides that he really does favor the character seen in the video game.
Rahm Kota has incredible detail. Once labeled as "Samurai Jedi" on early product lists, he looks just like than. And his Jedi uniform has a distinctly Asian look to it. The mixture of (removable) soft-goods with the rest of the figure looks pretty fantastic and it is not too often that a combination of soft-goods and molded plastic works so well together. It definitely works here. You couldn't ask for anything more when it comes to his articulation. You can get a nice range of movement with all of his points of movement and as a bonus the joints remain very well hidden or blend it very well with the rest of the action figure. He looks bulky in spots due to his armor, ye the action figure doesn't have any disproportion as a whole. This is very clever designing on Hasbro's part and for that we applaud them. The action figure stand that he comes with is personalized with his name and this has been a very popular pack-in premium for many fans. It is definitely a nice addition to the basic figure and it certainly helps with even more options for posing. We hope the stands become a mainstay for all action figures in the future. His chest armor is removable and this of course is a very cool touch to this figure because is gives additional versatility. There is something very organic about his costume that we are unable to pinpoint exactly what it is. But it seems as if Rahm Kota is in tune with something that the rest of the Jedi aren't.
Perhaps more intuitive than the average Jedi, Rahm Kota had a sixth sense about putting his complete trust in the clone troopers and as a result was able to successful escape the wrath of Order 66. After years in exile, he ends up being the first combatant of Vader's Secret Apprentice in The Force Unleashed video game. Evidently, Rahm Kota is a force to be reckoned with in the Star Wars universe. Whether he will find his way in additional Star Wars lore will have to be seen, but we think he would make an intriguing character for suture stories. As far as his action figure is concerned, he is absolutely a solid figure and one that is also very well made. He is a nice contrast to the many Imperial soldiers we have gotten based on The Force Unleashed and we hope that more Jedi are on the way. The Force Unleashed is undeniably successful, but one thing you can't deny is just how dark it is. The creators of the game have ensured that they set a tone even darker the the events that transpired in Episode V. Star Wars fans like dark undertones so we expect that this will carry the game into the collective whole as a relevant chapter in the Star Wars universe. We hope so, because this will guarantee more The Force Unleashed action figures for our collections! Besides, if you are a fan of Jedi in general, then this is a great figure for you to own just based on those merits alone!
