Detailed Visual Analysis

Greedo

General Analysis

I have crystal clear, like they were yesterday, memories of the vintage Kenner Greedo action figure. I remember getting him in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK line. I remember he was consistently a “go to” figure in my collection. And I specifically remember loving how he held the Rebel blaster that came with him. As an adult, I realize how far off he was to screen accuracy, but it didn’t thwart my enjoyment of him as a child. What's next may sound strange, but stay with me. I grew up watching THE GONG SHOW. There was one episode where a scantily clad woman with a chair was singing to an action figure that, for one reason or another, reminded me of Greedo. I’ve only seen that episode once (as a child) and have been unable to locate and view it as an adult. I wanted to refresh my memory to what I actually saw. Greedo became more important to me because of the action figure I saw during that bizarre performance on THE GONG SHOW. Whatever I perceived on television is something I directly linked to Greedo. Needless to say, Greedo remains one of my favorite action figures that Kenner has ever produced. As a modern collector, I find it bizarre that Hasbro never released Beedo or any of the other Rodians seen in the Original Trilogy. And while we have a near-definitive release of Greedo in the modern line, it still feels like we’re one or tweaks away from a completely definitive version.
