Detailed Visual Analysis

Darth Vader

General Analysis

September 1979 was a period of time in my life that I can plot on a timeline. I experienced sensory overload during this time as a kindergartner. My favorite television show, Wonder Woman, abruptly ended after only a couple Season 4 episodes (which ultimately are now considered the tail end of Season 3). But as much as that disappointed me, I was also introduced to my very first Star Wars action figure (without having seen the film); Luke Skywalker: X-Wing Pilot. I wanted Luke Skywalker: X-Wing Pilot and many other Star Wars action figures very badly for the upcoming Christmases and birthdays that would take place over the next few months. (See, I got things for holidays and special occasions, not simply because I existed.) I remember Christmas 1979 blowing by very quickly that year, and for one reason or another, I didn’t get any Star Wars figures. I must have had my sights set on something else at the time. Anyway, by the time my sixth birthday came in July 1980, I knew it had to be used to accrue and stow up Star Wars men. As clear as day I remember getting a Wonder Woman ice cream cake from Carvel, and multiple Star Wars action figures, including the magnificent Darth Vader. I played with him for hours and I remember leaving the 20-Back/21-Back packaging on the table, only to be chided by my awesome mom not to leave garbage on the table when I left it. I know I received a couple of figures that day, but I know none compared to Darth Vader. Even today, no character compares to Darth Vader.
