Well, it goes without saying that 5POA is generally NOT OK, but Hasbro is making it easier and easier to refute that argument. The latest Force Link 2.0 wave 2 figures are showing once again that this format is getting better and better and the sculpts (and the seamlessness they possess) in addition to the figures' likenesses, features and articulation are getting infinitely better. When compared to the awful action figures we received from Hasbro in 2013 when the 5POA format restarted, we're a world away. Keeping in mind that paint operations aren’t anywhere close to acceptable in the 3.75” range at the moment, Princess Leia Organa is the best modern version of the vintage Kenner Leia Organa (Hoth Outfit) we have now despite this. Sorry, it pains us to say it too, But in this instance it’s true. The proportions and likeness are stunning. And while for the most part, our sample looks great to the human eye, high-resolution photography sheds light on all of this sample’s sins, and we can all see where tightening up of the deco will behoove the figure. But from a stature point of view, the Force Link 2.0 Princess Leia Organa has a flawless silhouette that should excite all fans of any “Battle of Hoth” action figure. If Hasbro could take the digital files of this figure and update it with super-articulation, it would blow 2010’s TVC Leia (Hoth Outfit) (VC02) figure out of the running. Articulation may be in reverse, but detail and accuracy is making leaps and bound in progress.
Admittedly, we’re a bit perturbed with Hasbro for not qualifying Princess Leia Organa’s name with (Hoth Outfit). They should know by know how integral subtitles are to the action figures they make. This is beneficial from an archiving perspective, and checklist perspective and a general collecting perspective. Part of the Force Link 2.0 technology, Princess Leia Organa speaks lines from both Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi. We’re not sure if they just mixed things up when it came to the dialogue, or if this figure is meant to satisfy Original Trilogy collectors for a while, but the mixed-up dialogue is perplexing at best. The dialogue sounds like actress Carrie Fisher, and admittedly it is melancholy to hear that familiar voice (whether it be Carrie Fisher herself or an excellent voice actress) spouting off lines that brought us to the place of adoration we have for her. Part of the 5POA format (which is a slang for the mainline now), Princess Leia Organa comes with an adjusted seven points of articulation instead. The addition of two swivel boots gives her two extra points and are both helpful to stand her up as needed for balance. The tooling is so intricate that there is an illusion of swivel wrists. But when you attempt to articulate them, you quickly realize that this figure doesn’t have that articulation. It would have been wonderful to get this figure super-articulated, so hopefully, Hasbro has something in the works for us.
Princess Leia Organa is lightly accessorized. But all collectors should expect the figures in the 5POA line to come this way. Again, the tooling is so beautiful that it appears as if her vest is a separately sculpted accessory. It is close-fitted to her body. Hasbro went a little too light on the figure’s deco so more texture and a dirty wash would have brought this sculpt to life. The quilted pattern on her vest isn’t that accentuated. It’s quite dull in detail. But as we just mentioned, a light wash would have done wonders for this figure. Aside from some sloppy paint operations, this figure is gorgeous nevertheless. You may be surprised to learn that Princess Leia Organa comes with an all-new blaster. The new weapon is perfect, and the details are unprecedented. We’re not too sure if we understand why Hasbro has released so many toy concepts based on The Empire Strikes Back during the Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story product launches. Perhaps it doesn’t matter why, but we should appreciate that these products are getting made. With the recent Wampa/Luke Skywalker (Hoth) release, we’re getting some awesome key toys from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. We hope Hasbro keeps the momentum going because stuff from Episode V goes over incredibly well with the collecting community. You may resist what Princess Leia Organa brings to the table, but you’ll certainly miss out on a nice amount of goodness. She may not be perfect, but we’re excited with her release.
