Han is cagey about where he scored this overpowered M-68 landspeeder, saying little beyond that its previous owner no longer had need of it. The M-68 is a design from the ancient Core World of Corellia, now a principal starship production facility for the Galactic Empire.
We learned recently that George Lucas had some indirect influence on the Solo: A Star Wars Story film. It was confirmed that he was working on his version of a Han Solo standalone film before he sold his franchise to Disney and that he served as some type of consultant on the new film. And true to form, it appears that Disney has produced a story that will engage the large population of Star Wars fans that don’t like to deviate too far from the Original Trilogy timeline. Based on the few toys we have seen from Solo: A Star Wars Story, it is easy to see the influence of George Lucas here and there. But the strongest link may be Han Solo’s Landspeeder. George Lucas is a fan of fast cars and racing, and Han Solo’s Landspeeder looks just like a '50s hot rod that is known for its reckless speed. Han Solo’s Landspeeder is an above average toy from Hasbro. They could have certainly added more features to the vehicle to give it a little more value. And with the inclusion of a rather silly action feature, they’ve geared this toy towards kids first (which is fine).
Interestingly, Han Solo's Landspeeder has been approached very similarly the way 2002’s SW [S - P1] Anakin Skywalker Speeder and 2002’s SW [S - P1] Zam Wesell Speeder vehicles were. A soft and pliable rubbery material is wrapped around a section of the vehicle that collapses to imitate a crash effect. It’s a believable play feature and works well. However, for this release, the crash mode doesn’t lock into place. It does release a different action feature: a pop-up driver’s seat which is supposed to throw the included Han Solo figure as if he was thrown from the vehicle after impact. Again, it has a great effect. But the material Hasbro used is extremely tacky, and dust particles stick to it. We also imagine that over time the paint detail will fleck off and chip as the material deteriorates. The vehicle is mostly a dark blue color with accents of black and white. The interior cockpit is nicely tooled and highly detailed. Hasbro did a nice job on Han Solo's Landspeeder. It's just a bit simpler than expected. Also, the price is costly for what it is. $29.99 is about double what we think this vehicle is worth.
The included Han Solo (Corellia) figure is a nice addition here. Yes, it’s a simple 5POA action figure. But he comes with a removable vest and blaster pistol which gives the collector some options when displaying him. He fits perfectly inside of the included vehicle. And he interacts with it beautifully as well. It would have been sublime to see Hasbro add some tools so that Han Solo (Corellia) could “fix it up” as needed, especially with the battle-damage feature here. Han Solo (Corellia) has a distinct look for the character. We haven’t seen Han Solo in an outfit like this before now. He has an interesting appearance. But the figure is painted nicely. Hasbro went above and beyond to give this figure lovely paint operations. There is dirt collection on his lower legs, and some color on his vest to give the figure a little more depth and texture. Overall, Han Solo's Landspeeder is a decent release for Solo: A Star Wars Story. The vehicle moved excitingly in the trailer, and it shows a side of Han Solo that we always knew existed, but is always nice to see visually confirmed. Other than the ridiculous price, this is a fair vehicle.
