Han Solo - ROTS - Collectible Figure And Cup

Desperate for money to pay back debts owed to Jabba the Hutt, Han Solo takes Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, R2-D2 and C-3PO to the Alderaan system. Han then finds himself rescuing a princess and joining the fight against the evil Empire.

It’s the most OVERUSED version of Han Solo ever created. It’s probably the only action figure Hasbro produced where we lost complete tally in over the years. We’re not kidding. The 1999 POTF2 [CT/FB] Han Solo CommTech figure has been utilized so many times in so many different ways in the Hasbro Star Wars line that it’s a joke at this point. Despite a nearly flawless version of Han Solo with 2004’s OTC Han Solo Vintage figure, Hasbro incessantly repackages a figure a half a decade older and inferior. This Han Solo action figure isn’t terrible by any stretch of the imagination, but better versions now exist. It’s frustrating to watch Hasbro ignore the better to rehash the obsolete. In the case of the Collectible Figure And Cup line, we’re a little more forgiving. This TARGET exclusive line is about focusing on the cups and not so much the figures. As a result, Hasbro has pulled figures from The Power Of The Force “2” era, the Power Of The Jedi era and the Star Wars “Saga” era to pair with the beautifully designed and decorate drinking glasses. We’d recommend overlooking yet another repack of this Han Solo figure to focus on the cup because it would be a shame to skip it when something looks this wonderful.

At the time of its original release, Han Solo was an exciting release. Hasbro created a Han Solo that fit into any scene in Chalmun’s Cantina thanks to the figure’s articulated knees. Han Solo can sit perfectly thanks to the hinge-jointed knees and swivel thighs. This articulation approach allows the figure to attain the greatest array of movement possible. While not completely perfect, Han Solo is a little too stiff in the upper body. Regardless, you’ll be impressed with what he can achieve in movement that you probably won’t care too much about his limitations. It wouldn’t be fair to dismiss this Han Solo figure just because Hasbro will not stop repacking him. This figure deserves credit for lasting this long as he was a tremendous update to all past versions. But the VOTC figure has made this version obsolete, and it’s now time to start using that figure. Although the CommTech Han Solo has a new athletically streamlined body, he still has those annoying POTF2 era bulky hands which prevent him from looking as contemporary as he should for the Revenge Of The Sith era of figures we’re now collecting. But let us remind you of this. It’s all about the cup.

Let’s remind everyone of Han Solo’s features. Hasbro tooled a functioning holster which accompanies a perfectly-fitting blaster pistol. They interact perfectly together. Back in the day, it was the sole reason to purchase this figure (we’re not exaggerating about this either). Despite Han Solo’s bulky hands, the blaster pistol fits in his hand. And you can pose him is some pretty cool action poses with blaster blazing. His weapon looks realistic, and we’re impressed with the detail that was tooled into it. The other included accessory is the removable vest. This is another nice feature because you can remove the vest and get a completely different take on Han Solo (like changing out of Stormtrooper armor from the icky trash compactor for example). Obviously, there is more play value here than may first meet the eye. We love what Hasbro has done with this figure; it’s just that in 2005 he has over-welcomed his stay in the toy line. Originally planned for The Original Trilogy Collection in 2004, the wave of Collectible Figure And Cup sets that was intended for this line was canceled.
