While imperfect, the Collectible Figure And Cup collection has a certain charm to it. Released in the Star Wars “Saga” [Phase III] line as TARGET exclusives, they blend action figures and kitchenware together to create a gift set that carries along with it nostalgia and collectability. With each set based on every Star Wars film released to date, the sets are thematic and focused and made for an interesting collectibles line. For Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi, Hasbro turned their attention to Princess Leia, in her slave outfit, during the Battle of Carkoon. A step above all other Collectible Figure And Cup sets released in this grouping; Princess Leia’s sculpt was tooled during the Power Of The Jedi era which was the first basic figure line to focus on detail and scale. As a result, this version of Princess Leia holds up well and looks modern despite being a figure that is more than just a couple of years old at this point. With soft-goods hair and a weapon from a deleted scene, it’s great to see this wonderful version of Princess Leia accompanied by a collectible glass that also sports her visage. She will always be popular in this outfit, and it’s nice to see other collectibles made that complement the figures.
Is any basic figure collection truly complete without Princess Leia in her slave outfit? She is one of many quintessentially important characters from the Original Trilogy, but everyone seems to want to make her an important part of his/her collection. This version has remained a fan favorite. It’s pretty good. Originally part of 2001’s POTJ Princess Leia (With Sail Barge Cannon) Deluxe figure set, she’s now been packed sans cannon and is paired with a collectible cup. She has a wonderful likeness, a real metal chain and a force pike that was only seen in stills of deleted scenes from Return Of The Jedi. When it comes to her soft-goods, both the braids of her hair and her skirt are both woven in quality materials. She comes with limited articulation sadly, but this figure’s strength is its likeness and pose. She serves a purpose as is and comes with enough articulation to make her useful in the toy line. Keep in mind that her pose, proportions, sculpt and aesthetics are relatively flawless. There is always room for improvement, but Princess Leia is aging beautifully. We’re only trying to say that if they had to pick an older figure to use, this is the perfect one.
While it goes without saying that any Princess Leia action figure in a slave outfit should have the option of a sitting pose, this figure just won’t allow for that. It would have been nice to have that option here. With daintily thin extremities, Princess Leia has that femininity she deserves built in beautifully into this figure. And she has been built to scale with the rest of the figures in the lineup. She won’t look out of place next to Chewbacca, Darth Vader or even Jabba The Hutt himself. We neglected to talk about one issue with this figure’s accessory. It seemingly has a great sculpt, but it fails in one major way. Unfortunately, it has been cast from one of the flimsiest plastics we have encountered in the basic figure lineup to date. It’s quite maddening how it’s unable to maintain its shape. And over time it just wants to bow. But even despite this figure’s setbacks, the star of the exclusive is the Return Of The Jedi cup. It contains beautiful artwork and includes not only Princess Leia in her slave outfit, but also her bounty hunter Boushh disguise. You’ll also find images of Jabba the Hutt, Salacious Crumb and Han Solo in carbonite on the glass graphics as well. It’s a great set. Check it out for yourself!
A leader of the Rebel Alliance and a former senator in the Imperial Senate, Leia Organa is a driven, dedicated individual with a forceful personality. Her courage and daring were instrumental in defeating the evil Empire and restoring peace to the galaxy.
