K-2SO - S.H. Figuarts

S.H. Figuarts is a new standard figure series that incorporates the Bandai action figure "Art" under the theme "Pursuing Character Expression through Humanoid Action."

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a wonderful film. And it probably isn’t an exaggeration to say that K-2SO is probably the most enjoyable character of all. This droid added the perfect amount of comedy, action, and dialogue and helped to lay a strong foundation for the events that would transpire in Rogue One. We truly appreciated the character development of K-2SO in the very first standalone film. S.H. Figuarts developed a fantastic 6” collectible of this character in their popular line of high-end collectibles. The Black Series [Phase III] K-2SO (24) figure is great, but S.H. Figuarts takes this character to a whole new impressive level. The figure is loaded with articulation. Everywhere you’d imagine they would be a joint, S.H. Figuarts has given it to K-2SO. Plus, not only is the sculpt dynamic, the paint operations are beautiful. K-2SO captures everything the onscreen character has, and then some. This figure is thin, lean, tall, and flexible. He doesn’t come with any cool weapons, but he does come with interchangeable hands. The great thing is that they’re easily interchangeable. And the different hand poses give the sculpt great body language.

Let’s face it. There are just some details that are difficult to capture in a 3.75” action figure. Licensees like Hasbro are capable of making some incredible gems in 3.75” scale. But between the grand stature, complex articulation system,, and detail that has been etched into the S.H. Figuarts K-2SO figure, you can't help but be awed by this figure. In a nearly an unprecedented feat, things that aren't typically accomplished in smaller scales has been executed here brilliantly. This Star Wars action figure by S.H. Figuarts is a perfect replica of the onscreen character. They added finishing details that cannot be matched with most other licensees. If you inspect the figure you’ll be amazed by what has been accomplished here. The figure can stand by itself, but S.H. Figuarts have also included an “invisible” display stand to use as support the spindly-legged character. The display stand breaks down into five separate pieces. It does a good job of holding up the figure in some pretty crazy action poses, but we don’t feel it is a necessary piece for K-2SO. S.H. Figuarts figures are designed so well that they can maintain there own balance quite easily without much help at all. It’s a nice gesture that it was included, but certainly unneeded.

Check out the fine lines of color that beautifully frame K-2SO’s controls, buttons, and gears. Look at how “insignia” is cleverly placed and how they add character without overshadowing the integrity of the sculpt. Look at how the joints bend and allow the droid to be set in a variety of poses. These and more are all things that we should expect from high-end collectibles like this. We’re particularly fond of how they attached this droid’s head too. They’ve crafted an inverted ball-socket joint for the neck and then a normal ball-socket joint for the head. The range of movement you get from this “double” ball-socket articulation is pretty amazing. You can create some interesting poses because of this figure’s flexibility. K-2SO towers over so many of the other figures in the S.H. Figuarts line. He has been executed so beautifully that it makes us want the rest of the crew from the film. Simply put, K-2SO is a beautiful 6” action figure. This former Imperial droid has quickly become one of our favorite characters in the Star Wars universe, and certainly the best character in Rogue One so far. This character is full of antics, but they came off as greatly entertaining.
