Part of the support crew that keeps the Resistance starfighters flying, Rose has hated the First Order since she was a child. Now able to fight back against the enemy, Rose keeps her focus on her mission.

Resistance Tech Rose is a character that’s impossible to judge until you see the film. We know what she does in The Last Jedi, but how is her role relevant to the story? That’s what we won’t know until December 15th.Hasbro was certain to release her in every format possible and by the end of 2017, collectors have had every opportunity possible to grab her as 2017’s SW [TLJ] Resistance Tech Rose Force Link figure, 2017’s TBS [P3] Resistance Tech Rose 3.75” Walmart exclusive figure and now 2017’s TBS [P3] Resistance Tech Rose (55) 6” figure. Based on how all our final samples turned out we have decided to rank them as follows (with #1 being the best version): 3. the super-articulated 3.75” Walmart exclusive, 2. the 6” version and 1. the 5POA version. It’s sad that the simplest action figure of the three looks incredibly better than the more collector-focused versions. Something is awry at Hasbro, and it’s beginning to upset us a little. The best paint operations, the best sculpts, and the best approaches should all be focused on the figures that cost the most. But it appears that all of the resources are being saved on the line designed with gimmicks and for kids. It’s all very perplexing. With all of this out there, we’re happy to report that although not perfect, the 6” version of Resistance Rose Tech is pretty nice and turned out better than her 3.75” super-articulated counterpart. Most notable is her head sculpt. The 6” head, while simply painted like the 3.75” SA version, just turned out better and looked a whole heck more like the actress.

There is a great deal of criticism by the public on this character. We have no opinion on her except that we hope she portrays a relevant part of the story in The Last Jedi. From the rumor mill, there does seem to be some misinformation about the extent of her role in Episode VIII. The actress has stated she plays a rather small role in the film. But from the marketing and how many figures have been produced already, there seems to be a contradiction to those thoughts or opinions and perhaps her character will be more developed than expected. As you know, Rose is coming in every format in the “Resistance Tech” outfit, but she also wears a “First Order” officer’s uniform as part of a disguise too. A 5POA version of that character has already been released too. So far that already beats out the number of Rey, Finn, and Poe (for getting the same outside in all three formats) figures made for the line so far. In all honesty, Resistance Tech Rose reminds us a bit of Willrow Hood. She also reminds us of a generic Rebel Technician from the Yavin IV base. And she certainly reminds us of any other human character fighting for freedom against the evil in the universe. From this ambiguity alone it just feels like that Resistance Tech Rose should have some better than average relevance in Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. We find her character to be interesting. She seems like a “grunt” worker doing whatever she can to show her devotion to the Resistance’s cause. And we hope that’s just the start of what she accomplishes in the film.

As far as the action figure is concerned, it looks nice but pales in comparison to the 5POA version. It’s apples and oranges when talking about different scales, but we can’t get past the fact that the cheapest version of her looks the best. The Force Link figure has a much prettier face with more color and makeup. And we think the boxier cod section of the 5POA figure is more appropriate than the “bikini” cod section Hasbro worked into both super-articulated versions. And in all honesty, Resistance Tech Rose doesn’t need ball-jointed hips or swivel thighs. They’re unnecessary for this character. Premium articulation points should be worked into the sculpts of troopers and Jedi and other similar characters, but there is no need for Hasbro to go this far for a character that likely won’t need this much articulation ever. You can still make her run and attain incredible action with swivel hips, and having less “cutting” in the area would have tremendously upgraded the aesthetics of the figure. Resistance Tech Rose comes with a “taser” and a Resistance blaster rifle that has some sweet deco on it. The taser can attach to her beltline when not in use, and she can hold it quite well also. We managed to get Rose into some pretty impressive action poses. Her articulation system is very gracious and allows for incredible freedom of movement. Overall, we think Resistance Tech Rose is a nice action figure. She is certainly one of the highlights of all the new characters Hasbro produced for The Last Jedi. We just hope she becomes a relevant part of the Star Wars story.
