Part of the support crew that keeps the Resistance starfighters flying, Rose has hated the First Order since she was a child. Now able to fight back against the enemy, Rose keeps her focus on her mission.

What’s the deal with 5POA figures looking better than they’re super-articulated counterparts? This review will probably prove unpopular, but we think Hasbro might be doing “too much” when it comes to the 3.75” super-articulated scale. Dare we say or think that less is more with this? Or perhaps articulation count should be considered via a case by case basis? We do know one thing, however. The Star Wars [The Last Jedi] Resistance Tech Rose figure should NOT be outshining to Walmart exclusive (for now) The Black Series [Phase III] Resistance Tech Rose figure in any way or shape possible, but it’s defeated it by leaps and bounds. Granted, complex articulation systems greatly affect the aesthetics of some Star Wars characters. Many (most?) collectors are certainly willing to sacrifice some of that so our “army builders” are literally free of any encumbering or inhibitions. We’ll get into the figure in a few moments, but we’d like to comment on this character a bit more. We’re eager to see if her character turns out to have a well-developed storyline or if she is just being used to check off another diversity quota being met. Don’t get offended at that. We’re all for different types of people showing up in Star Wars as both lead and background characters, we just want to see those characters make sense and have substance to the story while giving it a strong sense of value. The “white” First Order versus the diverse cast of freedom fighters was old the moment we saw it. We’re hoping for a fairer balance of representation for The Last Jedi so the Sequel Trilogy has a lasting impact on the culture. We truly hope Resistance Tech Rose changes this for the better.

On the flip side, we’ve heard the awful comments about Resistance Tech Rose and her appearance in Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. We really don’t see what all of this is about because she really doesn’t look any different than most other Star Wars characters from the past. There does seem to be some misinformation about the extent of her role in Episode VIII, however. The actress has stated she plays a rather small role in the film. But from the marketing and how many figures have been produced already, there seems to be a contradiction to those thoughts or opinions. So far we are getting Resistance Tech Rose in the Star Wars [The Last Jedi] basic figure line and then in both scales of The Black Series [Phase III] line. So far that already beats out the number of Rey, Finn, and Poe (for getting the same outside in all three formats) figures made for the line so far. In all honesty, Resistance Tech Rose reminds us a bit of Willrow Hood. She also reminds us of a generic Rebel Technician from the Yavin IV base. And she certainly reminds us of any other human character fighting for freedom against the evil in the universe. From this alone is just feels like that Resistance Tech Rose should have some better than average relevance in Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. We personally find her character to be interesting. She seems like a “grunt” worker doing whatever she can to show her devotion to the Resistance’s cause. And we hope that’s just the start to what she accomplishes in the film.

As far as the action figure is concerned, it looks nice but pales in comparison to the 5POA version. The Force Link figure has a much prettier face with more color and makeup. The hairstyle is much more contained and less flyaway too. The 5POA figure LOOKS LIKE the actress/character, whereas The Black Series [Phase III] version looks a little angry or cranky. While we always prefer super-articulation, Hasbro has taken the articulation system much too far. Resistance Tech Rose doesn’t need ball-jointed hips or swivel thighs. This really affects the contour of her shape. These premium articulation points should absolutely be worked into the sculpts of troopers and Jedi and other similar characters, but there is no need for Hasbro to go this far for a character like this. You can still make her run and attain incredible action with swivel hips, and having less “cutting” in the area would have tremendously upgraded the aesthetics of the figure. Another feature of Resistance Tech Rose that “kills” us is the option to hook her “tazer” to her beltline. This is possible once again with the Force Link figure, but The Black Series [Phase III] figure doesn’t offer this option at all. This is very disappointing. Resistance Tech Rose also includes a Resistance blaster rifle which she can hold very well in her hands. Giving a 3.75” action figure more than once accessory is highly appreciated. We’re glad they gave her these accessories. We really like the Resistance Tech Rose action figure, but in this case, less would have certainly been more.
