A highly skilled soldier in the Rebel Alliance, Sergeant Jyn Erso is an impetuous, defiant warrior eager to bring the battle to the Empire. Jyn has little patience for debate within Alliance High Command, enough so that she takes matters into her own hands.
Wow! The Walmart exclusive The Black Series [Phase III] Sergeant Jyn Erso 3.75” figure has completely reinvigorated our interest in the character. It’s strange, but sometimes toys act as a spark or catalyst to brewing new interest in Star Wars Entertainment. It’s how we became fans of The Clone Wars. Originally digging our heals into the dirt about giving the show a chance, Hasbro's stellar action figure line birthed an awesomeness that couldn’t really be articulated with words. Initially, the character of Sergeant Jyn Erso interested us. Then we saw the trailer and we quickly lost interest. Now Hasbro has released an amazing super-articulated 3.75” version of her and now the pendulum has swung back the other way to the point that we want to champion for her universal acceptance by Star Wars fans. See how that works? Hasbro IS somewhat responsible for the success of Star Wars Entertainment. Enough of the anecdotal nonsense. Hopefully, you catch our drift. Great action figures do excite and inspire. And if Hasbro can keep this up AND increase the number of these types of figures they release each year, we believe there’d be a whole lot less complaining than there is right now.
Sergeant Jyn Erso genuinely has us excited. In our OPINION, this smaller 3.75” figure looks incredibly better than its 6” counterpart. You won’t find any curly Q eyelashes. You won’t find a rejected “Disney princess” like appearance. What you will find here is a beautiful and confident action figure that has a beautiful silhouette and a wonderful array of accessories to make any fan of super-articulated Star Wars figures very, very happy. So, we’ve been prattling along here. Let’s try to organize our thoughts a bit more. Sergeant Jyn Erso has an excellent sculpt. But more importantly, Hasbro has given the figure a simple, but somewhat accurate, paint job. It’s not perfect, but the likeness of this figure beats the 6” version by a landslide. Hasbro worked in an impressive 27 points of articulation across 16 areas. The addition of swivel hips is a remarkable enhancement, but they didn’t provide her with ball-jointed wrists which really allows the figure to hold blaster rifles beautifully. Thankfully this Sergeant Jyn Erso action figure doesn’t struggle too much with that either. The paint operations on the rest of the figure as well as the accessories are beautifully applied. And the joints match the color of where they’ve been placed. There are no oddities here or anything which is nice.
So, what about those accessories? Well, Sergeant Jyn Erso comes with a removable vest. Cool, right? OK, let’s move on then. She also comes with a blaster rifle that breaks down into three separate parts. This is new for the 3.75” line, but we first saw this weapon in 2016’s TBS [P3] Imperial Death Trooper/Captain Cassian Andor/Sergeant Jyn Erso (Jedha) TARGET exclusive three-pack (it came with Captain Cassian Andor). It is an amazing weapon in 6” scale, and it’s a pure joy in 3.75” scale. As you know, this rifle breaks down into three separate pieces. The center portion is itself a blaster pistol. And this is the portion that can be stowed away in her holster. Her hands are able to hold on the gun well and you can pose her in many action positions with the weapon and she just looks sublime. Between the ball-jointed hips and swivel thighs, Sergeant Jyn Erso has been granted a great deal of freedom to move thanks to the way she’s been designed. There are MANY issues with the Walmart exclusive 3.75” line. But one of them is how few figures they release, and how sporadically they release them. Sadly, the Imperial Death Trooper and Sergeant Jyn Erso comprise a new wave of figures. (There are repacks in the wave to help round it out of course.) This just isn’t enough to keep a line successfully afloat.
Status: Sergeant Jyn Erso is an all-new figure.
