The elite soldiers of Imperial Intelligence, Death Troopers are encased in specialized stormtrooper armor with a dark, ominous gleam and serve as bodyguards and enforcers for Director Krennic.

Wow! If there’s a symbol for Rogue One, it would have to be the Imperial Death Trooper. This character makes up the line look packaging art, and it’s a prominently featured character in the many scales that Hasbro produces. First released as a 6” figure in The Black Series [Phase III] line, the Imperial Death Trooper is now part of the controversial Walmart exclusive The Black Series [Phase III] 3.75” figure line. With an opening wave of straight repacks (although they’re all technically repaints), the first all-new wave is comprised of only two new figures; one of which is the Imperial Death Trooper. There is really no way of saying it folks. This figure is about as flawless as you could imagine. Hasbro did a bang-up job from sculpting to paint operations. And we couldn’t be happier with the final figure. What’s more, Hasbro gave this figure more accessories than its 6” counterpart, so you almost get every last accessory you need with one single purchase. (We have noticed one or two weapons that haven’t been produced in any scale yet, so it’s difficult to call this figure “complete” as is.)

The Imperial Death Trooper design is based on old Ralph McQuarrie concept artwork, but beyond that, there is no explanation to why these characters are so tall and thin, and why they’ve been set apart from the rest of the Imperial army. We do know that they serve as bodyguards to Director Krennic, but their athletic and tall frame is still a mystery. Whatever the reason, Hasbro has incorporated these traits beautifully into the 3.75” super-articulated action figure. With an amazing 27 points of articulation, the Imperial Death Trooper can accomplish pretty much any pose you desire. The figure has been blessed with a ton of ball-jointed glory, which allows a figure this small to look quite mobile on a display shelf. The articulation has been so wonderfully added into the sculpt that you almost can’t even see it. For example, the Imperial Death Trooper is wearing a ribbed bodysuit, and you can barely see the ball-jointed points of articulation because of this texture. In short, the figure is just splendid.

Although the Imperial Death Trooper is mostly black, the figure does come with beautifully applied paint operations. The character has a green visor and there are other green details on the helmet as well. There are also gray and silver details too. You’ll even find a dash of red color on his long rifle. And each and every highlight of color looks remarkable. The figure is shiny where it needs to be shiny, and dull where it needs to be dull. Nothing is out of place here. We challenge you to perform your own inspection and see if you can find any issues with this figure at all. The Imperial Death Trooper comes with a removable pauldron/vest combination piece. This allows you to have either a basic soldier or a squad leader. 6” collectors don’t have this option with a single purchase, so we consider ourselves blessed. The Imperial Death Trooper also comes with a blaster pistol and a blaster rifle. And the figure can hold both of them beautifully. The Imperial Death Trooper is a perfect 10. We hope Hasbro keeps up this high level of quality. It doesn’t get better than this!
