As director of Advanced Weapons Research for the Imperial military, Orson Krennic is obsessed with the completion of the long-delayed Death Star project. A cruel but brilliant man, Krennic has staked his reputation on the delivery of the functional battle station to the Emperor.

We see Disney’s pattern all too well when it comes to a Star Wars Entertainment’s toy line. We are introduced to a bevy of new characters, given very generic descriptions of their role in the new film, and then not told much else about them until the release of the film. Such is true for Director Krennic. Let’s just call him a “Grand Moff Tarkin” like character in Rogue One. (We’re certain we’ll see Grand Moff Tarkin at some point in the film too, but this character sort of has a similar role form what we can tell.) We know that he is protected by Imperial Death Troopers and that he is a little too preoccupied with ensuring that the completion of the Death Star comes to pass. This older gentleman wears duds similar to what we have already seen in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (especially the off-white uniform of Colonel Wullf Yularen) but then additions to his outfit have been added, like a cape for instance to give him his own uniqueness and identity we suppose. He has an important role in the film from what we’ve heard. We hope since he is a priority for Hasbro in the toy line.

Director Krennic comes into the Rogue One line as the standard simply articulated action figure we’ve come to expect. The likeness isn’t terrible, but rushed paint operations (especially in the face) make him look like a deer in headlights. The hair looks good and so does his costume. But keep in mind that there is VERY little you can do with him as an action figure because of his severely limited movement. We have to admit however that we’re impressed with the interaction the figure has with its accessories. The cape fits like a glove around the figure and stays in place very easily. He also comes with a blaster that fits perfectly in a functioning holster on his left side. When fully “assembled” Director Krennic looks sublime (minus his paint jobs issues). He really does. He is the perfect Imperial officer for the new Star Wars film, and in all honesty we hope that he becomes a character we love to hate. The coloring on the figure looks like what it should be and he is perfectly accessorized. There’s not much else we would ask for here.

As with all five points of articulation figures in the Rogue One line, Director Krennic comes with additional “play parts” as an extra selling point for small kids. He has been given an arm gauntlet cannon with a projectile. The figure is able to maintain his poses well while wearing it, but in all honesty it’s about the silliest things we have seen in the line to date. Some characters benefit by these “off screen” extras, but an Imperial officer/director like Director Krennic just looks ridiculous with his. Again, the money that’s been wasted on tooling these extra parts, why can’t Hasbro expend them on adding extra articulation into these figures instead? Hopefully as production goes on, Director Krennic’s paint operations in the face will improve. They’re really the only detractors with this figure (aside from the minimal articulation). Fans of The Black Series 6” line will be fortunate enough to add a very articulated version of this character into their collections soon enough. Now we just have to see if a 3.75” super-articulated version is coming next.
