As Jango Fett answers Obi-Wan Kenobi's questions on Kamino, he gauges the level of threat posed by the Jedi's investigation. On the surface, their conversation is polite, but underneath is a current of suspicion and menace. The bounty hunter anticipates that his next meeting with Kenobi will not be as pleasant.
The 2010 Saga Legends line was all about bounty hunters and collectors were treated to plenty of them in this line as well as The Clone Wars and The Vintage Collection lines as well. For the most part, Hasbro dug out some of their best creations of all time to release in this “greatest hits” line of sorts and it was warmly embraced by a huge facet of the collecting community. Repeats like Greedo (SL04), Zuckuss (SL03) and Bossk (SL01) all were part of the first “Shadow Of The Dark Side” line look of Saga Legends figures. And they were quickly scooped up and entered as proud additions to various collections. One figure however got a rough start in this line. There was a breakdown of communication somewhere between Hasbro and the factory in China and instead of repacking 2007’s TAC Jango Fett (30 57) figure, the inferior Jango Fett figure from 2009’s LC Kamino Conflict Battle Packs set was included instead. (Please note that this figure is a repaint of 2002’s SW [S - P1] Jango Fett (Kamino Escape) (‘02 #13) figure with the grappling hook removed. Technically this is 2006's TSC Jango Fett (SAGA 020) figure.) The issue was fixed relatively quickly, but many of the errors made their way to the retail level perplexing and confusing collectors. After all, we were all expecting the figure from the 30 (77-07) line instead.
Quite honestly, the “error” figure gets a lot of unnecessary flack. Yes, Jango Fett is in a pre-posed state and he is very limited in articulation, but the sculpt is excellent and all of the important details and nuances are there and they’re done quite well. Keep in mind too that he was pretty much state-of-the-art back in 2002 and 2003 and we believe he holds up quite well even by today’s standards. The sculptor of this figure did a fine job of capturing the moment Jango was in this exact position and we have always been happy with the final results. Sure, Jango may come across as a little too action-oriented, but we feel the figure is a success regardless of its limitations. Even Jango’s removable helmet is pretty much perfect and it completely covers his head (and chin) unlike so many other “newer” versions that have been problematic for collectors. In other words, Jango Fett is a worthy release even in 2010. It surely was a standout figure when it was first released in 2002. We’d encourage you not to be so harsh when it comes to critiquing this sculpt should you see it get released again. Not everything has to be super-articulated. In fact, not even a super-articulated version of Jango Fett is able to be put in a stance in exactly this fashion. This is a testament to the fact that sometimes figures with less articulation are necessary. Oh, and his paint job is fantastic as well.
Obviously, the running change version of Jango Fett is completely better and it's awesome that Hasbro took the time and effort to get out this revised version. The repacked 2007’s TAC Jango Fett (30 57) is absolutely one of our most favorites action figures from the entire 30 (77-07) line. It presents this bounty hunter is a completely different light. Jango Fett isn’t necessarily 100% screen accurate, but he’s the perfect marriage of kids’ and collectors’ figure all in one package. The exaggerated removable armor (which actually looks pretty incredible by the way) and removable soft-goods poncho are incredibly awesome and even when Jango Fett is completely accessorized he still doesn’t look bulky in the least. The figure is super-articulated and VERY scene-specific. This version of Jango Fett is meant to reproduce the look of Jango Fett from the one and only scene when Taun We brings Obi-Wan Kenobi to Jango’s & Boba’s apartment on Kamino for an awkward investigation. Jango is wearing a purple shirt and darker purple pants and then you can see parts of his bounty hunter armor in the closet doorway right before he asks Boba Fett to shut it to prevent Obi-Wan Kenobi from seeing it. Jango Fett comes with nine (9) removable accessories which is quite impressive for any action figure. Yes, he isn’t 100% aesthetically pleasing, but he isn’t shabby at all.
Status: Jango Fett [Version 1] is a slight repaint of the figure from 2009's LC Kamino Conflict Battle Packs sets, which is technically a repaint of 2006's TSC Jango Fett (SAGA 020), the version without the grappling hook.
