Deep within the dimly lit halls of Jabba the Hutt's palace on Tatooine, the musical combo, the Max Rebo Band, entertains some of the galaxy's most notorious smugglers, mercenaries, and bounty hunters. Besides offering great music, the multispecies band has three of the galaxy's best back-up singers and dancers. Greeata, a Rodian who is also a capable kloo horn player, joined the band at the same time as its lead singer, Sy Snootles. Rystáll, an exotic near-human raised by a pair of Ortolan musicians, was a slave under the crime lord Xizor until Lando Calrissian won her by defeating the lord in a sabacc tournament. Lando freed her and Rystáll's travels eventually brought her to Tatooine. The third singer is a Twi'lek named Lyn Me, recognized by her people as the greatest dancer out of all the Twi'lek clans. Together the trio of singers/dancers helped the band secure a lucrative, extended contract playing in Jabba's court until a visit from the Jedi Luke Skywalker cause the Hutt's criminal empire to come crashing down.
One thing that the Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi Special Edition did was introduce to a wealth of characters we didn’t know up until that point. When it came to the toy line, Hasbro made it a priority to get the important and visually curious characters into 3.75” scale wherever and whenever they could. The Cinema Scenes line was popular for many reasons. It brought us three distinct action figures into the line. This could mean that all three characters were all-new, or all three characters were previously released in some form or fashion in the past, but were newly tooled from the ground up for the Cinema Scenes set. In the case of the Jabba The Hutt’s Dancers Cinema Scenes set, collectors are treated to three all-new, first-time offered characters from the Return Of The Jedi Special Edition film. This colorful set was neat, but not too many collectors were wowed by it. With essentially three pre-posed dancing girl statues, Jabba The Hutt's Dancers doesn’t rate high for articulation. It is certainly a diverse set. We get three unique species of alien women, but they can do very little to appear differently thanks to their exaggerated poses.
Rystáll, officially known as Rystáll Sant, is the pretty and extravagantly bright red head of the group. Half human and half Theelin, Rystáll Gant comes with high hair and hoofed feet in a slinky dark maroon body suit. Her sculpt is sexy and attractive, and for the most part her paint operations are right on point. She has a very complex skin pattern, and all of that was taken into account when this action figure was decorated. She comes without any accessories (floating microphones would have been sublime here) which makes the set feel a bit weak, but she has a great center of gravity which seems to forgive some of the shortcomings of this set. Admittedly, Rystáll looks great. You just have to remember that you can pretty much display her one way only…. which may ultimately suit you fine. We’re particularly fond of Greeta. We’re suckers for Rodians. Her real name is Greeata Jendowanian and she’s another dancer/background vocalist into the newly lined up Max Rebo Band. There is a great deal of detail on her action figure and we’re thankful Hasbro captured it all so well. The texture of her skin to the flowing hair all perfectly recreate the essence of the character we saw onscreen. She too is very colorful and has a wonderful center of gravity.
Lyne Me (which is her full name by the way) may be the weakest figure in this set. She appears to have a great sculpt, but the black paint operations that make up her outfit have turned out a little too sloppily for our tastes. She is also pretty much two-toned: black and light blue. So she looks a little pair when compared to other Twi’leks I the Star Wars universe. She is posed in a little more of an aggressive fashion when compared to Rystáll and Greeta. As a result, it appears that collectors will have a little more versatility with her when it comes to posing. Together, these three alien women look fantastic. Their colors are vibrant and their energy frozen in their sculpts is captivating. But the luster wears off when you realize just how limited these action figures truly are. All three figures come affixed the standard extra long environmental display base. You can also use a portion of the packaging to fashion a colorful backdrop for the dancers as well. We still think that the Cinema Scenes line is too expensive when at the $19.99 MSRP. $14.99 is a much more palatable range for these three-packs of figures. Still, we have to remember that all of these figures are new, so that maybe be worth the higher price point.
