On the remote planet of Geonosis, the growing conflict between the Republic and its foes explodes into all-out war. The Republic's Jedi Knights lead a massive Clone Army into battle on hundreds of planets. The Separatists, led by the powerful Dark Lords of the Sith, fight back with their own formidable droid armies. As this terrible conflict rips across the galaxy, Anakin Skywalker, Padmé Amidala and Obi-Wan Kenobi are swept into the turmoil of war and the rising shadow of the dark side.

Battle Droids are produced in massive foundries on Geonosis. Despite a treaty forbidding the expansion of those armies, Geonosian foundries are currently running at maximum capacity, with thousands more Battle Droids secretly massing on Geonosis. Destroyer Droids are engineered specifically as mobile machines of destruction, capable of eliminating practically any opposition. Super Battle Droids operate independently rather than in groups, making them stronger, more efficient models of technological weaponry.

Oh, what fun it was to be a Star Wars collector during the Clone Wars multimedia event. At lightspeed it seemed, characters, vehicles and accessories were pouring in from Hasbro introducing collectors to many things they never saw before until now. New things that weren’t part of Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones have been introduced into the Clone Wars multimedia event and everyone seems to be enjoying them. Now Hasbro is doing their part to bring these items to collectors. A great supplementary basic figure line was joined by a nice array of vehicles. But this wasn’t enough to meet demand and help kids and collectors build their armies. Although they added quite a few “figure and vehicle” Deluxe sets for the Clone Wars line, they also added three-packs of characters to help pad the line. And although these figures came in many instances with reduced articulation, they were meant to be quick diorama fillers and they worked perfectly from this perspective. Separatists as well as members of the Republic were all added to the Deluxe line three-packs. Hasbro covered all of their bases and their efforts paid off well.

The Droid Army set focused on droids, obviously. Included in this three-pack were all-new sculpts of a Super Battle Droid, Battle Droid, and Destroyer Droid. The sculpts are excellently done. The Super Battle Droid has a wonky posture. It leans to its right pretty strongly. Interestingly enough, it has no issues whatsoever standing unassisted which in wonderful. The figure’s arms are also in a posed position. It really limits how many different ways you can pose the figure, but the proportions are there, it’s in a quasi action stance and will likely meet the demands of discriminating collectors just looking to add some variety into their collections. It is also nicely painted and has a metallic like paint finish which really makes it stand out. Obviously a major threat to the clones and the Jedi, it’s nice to keep getting different versions of these Separatist droids into the toy line, especially a Clone Wars focused toy line. No weapons are included for the Super Battle Droid and Destroyer Droid, and they don’t come with any other accessories either.

The Destroyer Droid is also nicely done. It is sturdy, can holds its poses well and looks great in any display. Its coloring seems paler than the other Destroyer Droids we have received in the past, but we love its simplicity. Simple seems to work better for these characters when it comes to toys. (That’s just our opinion. It doesn’t mean its right.) The last figure in this pack is the regular B1 Battle Droid. Cast in the colors of the droids seen during the Battle of Geonosis, this all-new version may be the best looking Battle Droid we have seen to date. Sadly, it comes with a silly magnetic action feature, but it doesn’t work too well. A magnetic is suppose to hold the body onto the legs, but it doesn’t work very well, and you feel like you’re spending your time trying to precariously balance the upper body of the figure on tis legs. It is a disappointment for sure. But the Battle Droid looks fantastic. You’re going to want to try and make it work. Battle Droid comes with a removable backpack and droid blaster. It is perfectly accessorized. The Droid Army is a nice looking and fun set. It’s a mandatory purchase for us. The Clone Wars line is just the perfect mix of old and new coming together.
