In Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, Jabba the Hutt has sentenced Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca to death by casting them into the Great Pit of Carkoon on Tatooine, but Luke Skywalker has saved themselves from the terrible fate by fending off the fearsome bounty hunter Boba Fett and Jabba’s minions! In a memorable moment in the film, Han Solo accidentally hits Boba Fett and knocked the Mandalorian down into the Sarlacc’s pit.

Today, Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys are excited to officially present the new Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi Boba Fett Sixth Scale Collectible Figure (Deluxe Version)!

The highly-accurate collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of Boba Fett in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. It features a finely sculpted Boba Fett helmet and armor, his signature jetpack, detailed weaponry, accessories, and figure stand. This deluxe version will exclusively include a specially crafted Sarlacc diorama figure base and two life-like jetpack thrust fire accessories!

This iconic bounty hunter deserves a spot in your Star Wars collection!

What is the purpose of Sideshow Collectibles dsitributing Hot Toys’ products. Is the relationship passive-aggressive? Does Sideshow wished to be publicly “pantsed” every time Hot Toys releases their next Star Wars collectible? Clearly we jest, but we must admit that we find it a bit peculiar that Sideshow Collectibles would work with another license that is direct competition to their own product line. It just feels odd to us. Hot Toys was even responsible for helping Sideshow Collectibles build an ideal buck for many of their popular 1:6 Scale Figures. Moving on, Boba Fett (Deluxe) is the latest in Hot Toys’ Movie Masterpiece Series collection. These breathtaking figures are utterly amazing how they’re approached. And the final figures, while not always perfect, capture what most consider the greatest onscreen likeness possible. Boba Fett has always been a difficult character to capture in one-sixth scale. The Boba Fett (Deluxe) release is not perfect, but it is now probably the closest we have that approaches perfection. It may even maintain this assessment for years to come. Based on his appearance from Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi, the Boba Fett (Deluxe) figure comes with a pretty amazing sarlacc pit base (with three bendy tentacles and fearsome mouth) and two fire attachments for his jetpack. This version of Boba Fett more closely follows the inspiration of Hasbro’s popular Unleashed Boba Fett than anything in the film, but we love the Expanded Universe take on the pieces. It truly looks divinely marvelous when fully assembled.

Boba Fett comes with a full articulated body. With over 30 points of articulation, the buck of this body has been designed to do anything you want it to do. Or does it? Well, while the base buck has articulation pretty much everywhere, the armor and especially the clothing is so closely fit and tight that it inhibits movement throughout the figure. We had difficulty spreading this figure’s legs widely. We had a little trouble angling his arms up while holding his blaster. And wehad difficulty articulating his torso because of the little wiggle room the clothing allows. It’s bittersweet. We love the close fit clothing, but the problem with not having baggy clothing is that movement is truly blocked and prevents the figure from attaining poses you want it to attain. So, ultimately, it is hard to fault the figure for its movement when it looks this great. One issue we DO take with Boba Fett (Deluxe) is that his knee armor cannot be moved because of the tight clothing around the legs. The instructions warn not to “mess” with the knee armor because of its fragility either. But the issue is that the knee armor sits too love and interferes with the four tools that you place in the pockets below them. Also, the pockets haven’t been woven properly as the tools fall too low and a few of them disappear into the pocket. These may be small issues for some collectors, but for us we wish that they took these little details to heart, especially since movement is sacrificed because of the costume.

Boba Fett (Deluxe) has a phenomenal helmet sculpt. Even better, the rangefinder articulates 90 degrees as it should and holds its place because the proper amount of friction is present in the sculpt. Boba Fett (Deluxe) has stunning paint operations from head to toe. There isn’t going to be any complaining here with regards to that. The helmet is particular is gorgeous. Boba Fett (Deluxe) looks ripped right out of Episode VI and that’s the level of quality collectors expect to see with collectibles that cost as much as these do. We also have to thank Hot Toys for placing his chest armor evenly and accurately as well. We concede it is a difficult part of Boba Fett to get right in collectible format, but they did an admirable job. The Wookiee scalps are a little bit too shiny, but they also appear correct in shape and drape. Boba Fett (Deluxe) comes with five interchangeable left and right hands (in addition to the two fists he comes with), a blaster rifle and four individually sculpted utility tools. For the Deluxe version only, collectors are treated to two jetpack flames and a sarlacc pit base. These exquisitely sculpted extras bring a great deal to the figure, but don’t add that much to the MSRP. Now, there is no denying that Boba Fett (Deluxe) is an expensive item. Our point is that you don’t pay that much for for these “big” extras. Boba Fett (Deluxe) is a fantastic interpretation of Boba Fett. It’s nice to see the Episode VI version of him get some love. We’re interested to see if they’ll do an Episode V version next.
