In Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones, Sun Fac sentences Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala to be executed in the Geonosian arena after convincing them of espionage. The ruthless Sun Fac is chief lieutenant to Archduke Poggle the Lesser, and runs the Geonosian Droid Factories with a cold and brutal efficiency.
The Legacy Collection [2] line was originally planned to focus on characters from Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones before it got canceled. You see, Lucasfilm Ltd. had planned to re-release all of the Star Wars films in theaters, but for the first time in 3D. After a not-so-successful run with Episode I, plans were shelved, but much to the chagrin of licensees who had already planned their packaging and assortments for the entire year. (They work in advance, sometimes 18 months to two years.) Hasbro in particular had to reevaluate their plan for the basic figure lines. The Star Wars [Yoda/Attack Of The Clones] line look is a perfect example. It was all but shelved. It ran for half of 2013 but most of the products planned for the line got axed in America, including ALL basic figure lines. It was quite traumatizing for many collectors. The Legacy Collection [2] line was intended to be the complementary collector-focused line of 2013. Not even thought to exist, these figures began appearing at the retail level at elevated prices. In May of 2015, retailer Go! Games & Toys, part of Calendar Holdings, began getting these figures in small numbers. This was a huge surprise, because collectors were under the assumption that they never were produced. Now these figures comes to us once again, but in a way that is exciting because of our general love for this pack-in premium.
The Black Series line was created to replace Legacy Collection [2] and also served to rescue the previously planned figures and get them out to collectors. Hasbro had to do a great amount of switching things around, and postponing a few of the figures. There are still some figures that have not found a spot to be released. We hope figures like Captain Rex and the A-wing Pilot and others eventually see release at some point. Anyway, Hasbro reserved some of the more “army building” characters for a special Amazon.com exclusive Droid Factory six-figure multipack. They also managed to squeeze in a seventh Build A Droid figure, TC-70 (Jabba The Hutt's Protocol Droid), also into the mix to make the purchase even more attractive. Cleverly they resurrected the “formerly canceled” Legacy Collection [2] packaging and have placed the figures on revised basic card backs. Sun Fac, is part of this multipack, but now he’s available as the basic figure he was intended to be. The real bonus of course is that we have an upgraded figure of the character we last received in 2006. Hasbro released the very first Sun Fac action figure as 2006’s The Saga Collection Sun Fac (SAGA 016) figure. It is still a tremendous effort of an action figure by today’s standards, but the new 2013 (and now 2015) flavor is more attractive as it has a lot more articulation and firmly ranks as definitive.
Sun Fac comes with remarkable super-articulation, but that’s because it has two extra points of articulation in the wings in addition to the premium ball-jointed points elsewhere on the figure. The sculpt is divine and can attain pretty much any pose you wish. This is in and of itself an answer to prayer because the Geonosian Warrior sculpts from the Star Wars “Saga” era were at best a totally debacle. They couldn’t stand up if you paid them to and they certainly wouldn’t hold the pose for much longer if by some miracle you could balance them for a few seconds or moments. The paint job on Sun Fac is nothing revolutionary. After all, Hasbro gave us excellent paint jobs on the Geonosians beginning with the ones in the Geonosis Arena Showdown TARGET exclusives. And actually, Sun Fac is a rework of the Geonosian Warrior first released in 2009’s LC Kit Fisto/Geonosian Warrior (2 of 6) Geonosis Arena Showdown TARGET exclusive set. It was also used for the 2010 LC Shaak Ti/Geonosian Warrior (4 of 6) Geonosis Arena Showdown 2010 Edition set as well as 2011's SW [SOTDS] Star Wars: Republic Commando (Delta Squad) Toys R Us multipack. It was a great sculpt then and it’s a great sculpt now. You may have not been eagerly awaiting an update to Sun Fac, but now you got one. And you should be happy with it. It’s nice to finally have this character in definitive status.
Status: Sun Fac is a pre-pack of 2013's LC [2] Sun Fac figure which was part of Amazon's exclusive Droid Factory multipack. Although still in Legacy Collection [2] packaging, this figure has received different artwork and a different droid part. The Legacy Collection [2] line was originally planned to run in place of The Black Series basic figure line.
