Beskar™ Ingot Special Edition FireCuda® NVMe 1TB SSD M.2

Featuring 1TB of space and an awesome Beskar design, here's an M.2 drive that fits right at home with any Star Wars-themed PC (or any PC for that matter)! This drive is made to be SEEN, so make sure you can look in your case and enjoy the Beskar design featuring those thieving Imperial's logo stamped on the front.

In order to take advantage of the M.2 design, you will need to make sure your motherboard supports the installation of M.2 drives. And, if you already have an M.2 drive installed (and are using it), it's going to take some computer savvy to move your Windows installation from one drive to another.

My setup features two M.2 drives, so I was able to replace my second drive (non-OS drive) with the Beskar M.2 drive with a fair amount of ease. Thanks to the free AOMEI Backupper software I was able to easily clone my older drive, swap the drives, and then restore my image to the new Beskar Ingot drive. Unfortunately, if your M.2 drive is your system drive you will need the pro version of that software to clone and restore your system to the new drive (or some other cloning software).Seagate does also offer some software to help with these tasks.

This drive also comes equipped with a built-in heatsink which will surely help keep this drive running at optimal performance (my previously installed drive did NOT have one). This does make the drive have a nice hefty feel which helps sell the Beskar design.

Unboxing

The packaging itself is nothing to write home about, but this is NOT meant to be kept MINT IN BOX, so take it out, toss the box, and enjoy the drive for what it is!

  

Included inside the box is the drive itself, a quick start guide, a small The Mandalorian/Beskar Ingot Drive postcard, three Seagate decal sheets, and a Star Wars-themed decal sheet featuring markups and logos from The Mandalorian. The drive is securely protected in a foam insert.

  

  

Installation

Installation of an M.2 drive does assume some basic technical skills when it comes to computer hardware. You are going to need to feel comfortable enough popping the cover off of your PC and finding the M.2 slot. The drive was very easy to install in my second M.2 slot after removing my older M.2 drive. It inserted in the slot very easily and was secured with the mounting screw. Once installed, the only thing left to do was boot up and make sure the computer recognized the device so I could transfer my drive image to the new drive!

   

After waiting an hour for my image to make its way to the new drive, one more reboot to re-establish the drive's files, I was up and running! This drive definitely makes a nice compliment to my Star Wars NVIDIA TITAN Xp video card!

  

Special Edition FireCuda The Mandalorian 2TB External Hard Drive

Seagate also released a series of external drives, including a Beskar™ Ingot 2TB Special Edition FireCuda® External Hard Drive (2021), and three The Mandalorian character drives (Grogu, The Mandalorian, and Boba Fett). For this review we will be taking a look at the The Mandalorian Special Edition 2TB FireCuda External Hard Drive.

Featuring 2TB of disk space, USB 3.2, and an app-controlled RGB light-up feature, this drive is a fun addition to your desktop.

Unboxing

Once again, Seagate didn't design a box meant for displaying on your shelf. Instead, we get a standard window box showing off the drive and its beautiful artwork.

    

Included with the external drive is the drive itself, a quick start guide, USB 3.0 cable, and a Mandalorian-themed decal sheet. The decal sheet's layout is slightly different than the decal sheet that came with the Beskar drive, but the decals are the same.

    

The drive is emblazoned with a nice artistic representation of The Mandalorian on the front, and an embossed mudhorn logo on the back. The front of the drive features the nameplate and a nice RGB LED strip that you can adjust using the toolkit application that is included on the drive.

Installation

Once you plug the drive in it will auto install and open the drive's contents. Simply launch the Start_Here_Win.exe file (for Windows) or open the Start_Here_Mac folder. Both will lead you to registering your drive and installing the toolkit software. Once installed you can easily adjust the LED color on the front of your drive. It's a fun addition to a desktop drive, especially if you home setup also includes other LED light up components.

  

After the toolkit software is installed, simply open the toolkit window from your task bar, make any necessary adjustments, and watch the LED change to whatever color you want.

 

Adding LED lighting is a really nice feature for an external hard drive. You can even run a nice rotating color spectrum that slowly cycles through different colors. If you don't want to use the LED feature there's also an 'off' switch in the software. The drive doesn't just work with your computer, but other platforms as well (PC, MAC, PlayStation, and Xbox).

  

Overall, both of these drives make a nice addition to any desktop looking to add just a bit more Star Wars flare. Can we really have too much of that? My only 'complaint' is that the drives aren't offered in other sizes. I use a pair of 4TB external rives for my media center, and it would be great to have two Star Wars-themed drives to use instead that were more than 2TB.
