It’s really no secret that Hasbro lost the plot with the Commemorative Tin Collection sets by the time we reached The Legacy Collection. Always looking to plant an exclusive product at some retailer, Kmart always seemed to get the short end of the stick. This wasn’t true all of the time because quite frankly they received some of the coolest exclusives of all time. But by the time The Legacy Collection was born, collectors were beginning to see a trend that wasn’t going to be good for the line’s health: incessant repacking. It started as soon as The Legacy Collection began, but what collectors could hardly comprehend was why exclusives were being contrived that contained straight repacks. It probably goes without saying that the Kmart exclusive Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith Commemorative Tin Collection (1 of 3) is one of the bigger disappointments in The Legacy Collection lineup. It is easily passable. If you’ve been collecting since at least the Revenge Of The Sith line, you likely have all of these figures multiple times a piece.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is a straight repack of 2007’s TAC Obi-Wan Kenobi (30 05) figure. There are literally no differences that exist between the tin figure and the basic figure from the 30 (77-07) line. Even all of the original accessories are included for the Commemorative Tin Collection (1 of 3) release. R2-D2 is a little bit more interesting (but not for any good reasons). Initially, Hasbro accidentally packed this tin with 2007’s TAC R2-D2 With Cargo Net (30 46) figure (the one is the dirt and moss accumulation on his body, legs, and feet but this figure was quickly replaced with the R2-D2 (Artoo-Detoo) figure from 2005’s TSC Early Bird Figures set which is an all-clean figure. (This was an odd error, wasn’t it?) The Shock Trooper, which is always a welcome army building figure, is a straight repack of 2007’s TAC Shock Trooper (Saga Legends) figure. It’s important to note that Hasbro did NOT use the Shock Trooper from 2006’s TSC Skirmish In The Senate Battle Packs set. They updated the paint operations in multiple ways, but most importantly the spread out the vertical lines on the helmet and gave even white space in between them making them screen accurate.

General Grievous is absolutely the biggest disappointment in the set. But it’s a fun figure because of its action features and kids should love it regardless. Like the Shock Trooper, Hasbro utilized the 2007 TAC General Grievous (Saga Legends) figure and not the Revenge Of The Sith figure. You can tell by the paint operations because they differed on the 2007 TAC Saga Legends release. What makes this set even less attractive than already having the figures in this set? Well, it would be the price. Not as expensive as the Kmart exclusive Commemorative Tin Collection sets from the 30 (77-07) line, they still retail for $32.99 (with some reports of even higher prices) which is at best eight dollars more expensive that the general marketplace sets we got at the end of 2006 that contained many newly tooled parts (and all-new repaints). We’re not claiming all of the new Commemorative Tin Collection sets in The Legacy Collection are boring, but the one based on Revenge Of The Sith line leaves quite a bit to be desired. At this point in the game, Hasbro should be utilizing the best sculpt possible in their inventory of parts. Not all of these figures take advantage of that.
