In a conference room on Geonosis, leaders of the Confederacy of Independent Systems watch Republic and Separatist forces engage in what will become the first battle of the Clone Wars. Unscrupulous opportunists who will do anything that will benefit them financially, they ally with Count Dooku to advance their own interests.
Well, the multipacks name not have been named consistently, but Hasbro ensured that the quality of action figures contained inside of them were. The Geonosian War Room (Featuring Nute Gunray, Passel Argente & Shu Mai) help to complete the cast of characters that were plotting against the Army Of The Republic during the Clone Wars so they could mastermind the ultimate weapon in the galaxy: the Death Star. Count Dooku was able to hide the plans for this space station and take it with him as he fled Geonosis, but it was really on the beginning of the turmoil the galaxy would feel as the Battle of Geonosis was only the opening skirmish in the years-long Clone Wars. Separatists may not be exciting, but they’re visually interesting and in a way are the Original Trilogy equivalents to all of the neat aliens we saw either in the cantina of Jabba’s palace. Of course there are major differences too. The Separatists are major political figures and usually when anything becomes political, people lose interest. But Hasbro made some engaging action figures based on these characters and included them in a “builder” type of multipack. The Scene Packs are a great way to get multiple characters at once while focusing on a theme.
Geonosian War Room (Featuring Nute Gunray, Passel Argente & Shu Mai) (2 of 2) may end up being the better of the two sets. And identical one-half of the tactical table has been included here as Hasbro has designed it well enough to be a mirror image of itself, and you also get three new figures to make it a totally worthwhile purchase. Nute Gunray, the famous Neimoidian from Episode I now appears in the duds specific to Episode II. Hasbro designed an all-new sculpt in order to do this, so no old parts have been recycled. Passel Argente, the eerie Koorivar, looks like a distant relative to Medusa. He comes with limited articulation, but has been given a wonderful paint job. Although, we don’t believe the paint job is that screen accurate to the onscreen character. Still, he resembles the character in the film quite a bit and will fit in perfectly well with the rest of your Separatists. Shu Mai looks about to be the best looking and most interesting action figure of the bunch. She sadly lacks in articulation as well, but she’s been given a ball-socket head which works well in her favor to provide a decent amount of movement, no matter where you place her in your collection. She has a gorgeously colorful paint job and can stand unassisted. What more could you ask.
Together, these three great characters round up a wonderful cast of Separatist characters that have been sorely lacking in the basic figure line. What’s more, you can add 2003’s SW [S - P3] Wat Tambor (Geonosis War Room) ('03 #23) next to these completed sets to help add a little more color, versatility and war mongering as you so desire. Even the environmental display stand that comes with Wat Tambor helps accentuate the Scene Packs quite nicely. If there is one thing that you have to congratulate Hasbro on in the Star Wars “Saga” lineup, it’s that their planning was impeccable. They really thought long and hard how to make action figures and their corresponding parts interact with one another. And this was true even in the collector-focused figures as well. Geonosian War Room (Featuring Nute Gunray, Passel Argente & Shu Mai) (2 of 2) may not have the notoriety of a three-pack of Jabba’s skiff guards or Chalmun’s cantina denizens, but for those who are fans of Episode II, you have a great deal of product to enjoy here. Remember, these are all-new sculpts. And even if the price is more inflated per figure than those in the basic figure line, you have to remember that you are also getting a large accessory to accompany them, the main reason to buy these figures.
